Madeleine's POV:
"You excited?" Lyssa squeals in my ear while I pin my number onto my baggy top with a safety pin.
I nod and smile as we link arms and walk up onto the stage together, I'm anything but excited. I honestly would have turned back by now if Lyssa wasn't with me. I start to feel even more nervous once we get onto the stage and see all the other girls stretching, I feel kind of out of place.
Lyssa must sense my nervousness because she nudges me lightly whilst giving me a big grin, "Don't stress".
We drop our dance bags by the mirror and begin practicing our different dances we prepared. After running through my dance a couple of times a man appears in a suit alongside a woman in a tight black dress and she hollers at everyone, I turn around to face them and they smile before the woman says, "Hello, ladies. So you're all here to audition for a spot in the group of San Marino dancers?" There's a chorus of 'yeah' and then she proceeds "So, let us begin, we'll start from 1-78, and then by the end of this week you should get a phone call telling you if you have been chosen or not. Only 15 of you will be getting this phone call".
After he says that all the girls look around nervously, there's a really low percentage that I'm going to make it in here. "Fret not girls." the man speaks in a very high pitched tone. "We will begin the auditions in 5 minutes and you will all perform your solo pieces that you have prepared and we will be starting in chronological order. Numbers 1-10 should prepare to perform now. Thank you" He flashes a quick smile before he utters "Good luck" with a heavy sigh.
I look down at my number I pinned to my shorts to remind myself, 28. "Do you want to go to the toilet and go over our routines again?". Right now, I don't think there's anything such as too much practice.
"I think maybe we should just watch the other girls, you know, to give us an idea of what we're competing against.
"Yeah" I say before releasing a small sigh, "you're probably right".
"Don't remember a time when I was goddamn wrong" she says with a smirk and quick eyebrow raise before grabbing my hand and leading me off the stage and into a seat. We sat near the back, away from all the other girls. We can just about see the performers on the stage. "I find this so... exciting".
"Really? I think it is more nerve racking for me".
"I know but, you get to know if you're good enough to perform at this prestige ass club" She says sitting up. "We've spent our whole fucking lives dancing and now we get to find out if it was worth it".
I furrow my eyebrows "And that gets you excited?" its comes out as more of a question than a statement.
"Hells yeah. Maddie, if we got in that would be great because this club... is boujee as fuck"
The lights in the audience dim slightly and both our heads jerk to look at the stage. "Auditions will be beginning now, please prepare to perform and have your music ready, so time isn't wasted. Thank you" A feminine voice says the microphone.
