I ran down those stairs. I ran fast. Faster than I have ever ran before. I needed to get away from my dead family. The virus took over their lives. When I got out of the apartment complex, onto the streets I felt this overwhelming sense of emptiness. And sadness. And quiet. I wanted to burst out crying, but I had no shoulder to lean on. Everyone was gone. I had to accept that. I felt a small tear roll down my cheek. One tear after another I started to feel anger. Now I wanted to scream. No one would hear me.
I scream. I scream the loudest I've ever screamed before. If people lived, they would give me those strange looks. I'll never see those looks ever again. I'll never ever see another human being. I'll never see happiness, I'll never see love. I'll never feel love. Everything is shit. Why would this happen to me out of all people? My short, skinny body will never even survive a day in all this dead. I pull myself together. I'm now soaking from all my tears. I stand up. I look around me. Crashed cars everywhere. Bodies everywhere. Just... dead. It's so graphic. I start walking around. I don't know where to go. I've never been taught how to handle a situation like this, probably because it was so unexpected. No one saw this coming. Not even scientists. It went so fast, the news didn't even have time to report it.
I start hearing faint yells.
"Wow, I'm already going insane" I mumble.
The yelling got louder. I kept ignoring it. It just sounded like echoes in my head.
Now I start hearing footsteps. I keep myself from turning around, to maintain my sanity.
I start hearing a familiar voice. I never thought I would hear one ever again. It sounded so real. So good. I turn around. "GRAYSON!". I completely lost it. It felt so good to see my best friend alive, standing on two feet.
