The duo had been travelling for hours, especially flying over the valley of Kuneer. During there flight, Jatt and Jutt spotted Grimble.

"Hey, Jatt, look," Jutt pointed out. "It's Grimble."

"Perfect. Hit him with the new look," said Jatt.

"With or without raised eyebrow? " Jutt asked.

"With raised eyebrow. With raised eyebrow," Jatt whispered urgently. Jutt turned to give Grimble the look.

"Greetings, Grimble," said Jutt with his intimidating look.

"Jutt, Jatt, so nice to see you both," Grimble said.

" Did you only get half an owl tonight, Grimble?" Jatt asked.

"No, Jatt," Grimble answered. "It's an elf owl. They're very small, but hard workers."

"Too old to carry a full-size one?" Jatt joked.

"Yeah, hilarious," said Grimble. He looked at Jutt's weird look. "Is there something wrong with your face, Jutt?"

"Huh? No!" Jutt said, clearing his face again.

"You've upset him now," said Jatt.

"It's a new look!" Jutt defended himself.

"But you gotta work on your comebacks. " Jatt said.

Soara looked at the small elf owl, wondering who she was.

"I'm Soara," the younger barn owl said to the elf owl.

"Gylfie," said the young elf owl.

"He said you were an elf owl," Soara stated.

"From Kuneer. That's in the desert. Are you a Tyto?"

"Yeah, from Tyto Forest."

"Who are these owls? Do you have any idea where they're taking us?"

"Hey! Stop talking." Jutt shouted at the two girls.

They immediately quiet themselves. During this adventure, the owlets' captors began flying over fields and fields of the desert and entered an archway. Soara looked to see centries posted on the highest level of the desert. The children found themselves in a canyon, being rounded up by owls with glowing red eyes.

"Quiet!" Grimble shouted.

Jatt yelled, " Listen to the old man!"

"KLUDD, WHERE ARE YOU!" Soara shotued for her older brother.

"Settle down." Grimble shouted. "Silence! Your parents and families have abandoned you. So from now, you'll be classified as orphans."

"No, I'm not an orphan," cried an owl. However, Grimble ignored them and continued speaking to one another.

"Horribly tragic, I know," Grimble continued. "But by the mercy of Glaux... ...you've been rescued and brought here to St. Aegolius. And, in time, you'll come to be grateful for the kindness shown to you. You'll repay that kindness with labor. Some of you will be pickers."

"No, I don't want to be a picker!" commented one of the owls. "Some will be soldiers."

Soara spotted Gylfie and quickly ran to her friend's side.

"Gylfie, stay with me." Soara said, bringing her close. The elf owl nodded.

"In your ways, all will serve the High Tyto and the Pure Ones," Grimble said.

"Let us go!" shouted Gylfie.

"Silence."

"We don't want to serve the Pure Ones," shouted an owlet.
