"Can I see her?" I asked. "What?" "Can I see her?" I repeated weakly. My mother nodded and walked out the door. "How are you feeling?" Asked my uncle. I was in excruciating pain, and I'm sure he knew that too. I refused to look at my arm... I was horrified. I shook my head. He stroked my hair. I focused on how my arm felt. I didn't notice before, but it felt almost as if someone had put a cleaver through my arm. I started crying. "No, no, don't cry. It'll be alright I promise." He said, running his hand down my good arm. My mom walked into the room with a leash in her hand. From where I rested my head I could'nt see past the leash. She bent down and picked up Molly. "This is Molly." My mom said as she set Molly down on my bed.
"Don't get her on Eva's chest." My nurse said. She was thin and tan. She was about the same height as my mother who was about 5 foot 7. Her light brown hair was pulled into a high pony tail which reached her waist, and she wore a sympathetic smile. She was beautiful.
I looked at the dog. My vision was blury from the amount of blood I lost but I saw a small white golden retriever who looked about 6 months old. "Hello sweetie." I said as I slowly sat up. "Ah." I moaned. I laid back down. She came to me and licked my face. "Um," I looked at the dry erase board that had my nurses name on it, "Clove... I have to use the bathroom." I asked awkwardly. She rushed to my side and helped me swing my legs over the side of the bed. She grabbed my back and slowly lifted my torso. I clenched my fist in pain. Together, we slowly walked to the bathroom. She closed the bathroom door behind her.
"Oh there's no toilet paper, I'll be right back." Clove said. I nodded. She closed the door behind her. I heard her loud footsteps echo down the hall. I heard the murmuring of my family members just feet away. I was truly excited for Molly, and I've always begged my parents for a dog but this was not the way I wanted to get one.
I placed my good hand on the cold sink and stared at the slightly rusted drain. I knew there was a mirror in front of the sink but I wasn't sure if I was ready to look up. "I have to look sooner or later." I whispered into the sink. "1..." I started counting in my head. At each number I jerked my head towards the mirror. "2...3!" I looked up quickly. I gasped and placed my hand over my light pink lips. My stub was wrapped in bloody gauze. Tears ran down my face at full speed. "Ah..." I screamed. I cried louder and louder. My mom rushed into the bathroom. I smacked my back into the corner of the tile bathroom and slowly slid down the wall regardless of the pain I felt in my spine. "Honey what's wrong?" She asked as she offered a hand to help me to my feet." "What do you mean what's wrong? I'm missing and arm mom! I'm missing my freaking arm!" I yelled holding back the tears.
Molly came in and sniffed me. She stared at me with her big blue eyes. She came closer and licked my tears. She made me feel a little better. Molly was the only one who understood.
