Tobasco was only a young stallion, but had a growing herd. He's picky with his mares, only wanting the best to produce his foals. He was popular among the young fillies, his coat was eye catching. simple but elegant, he had the looks anyone would fall for. He would protect his mares and put their safety before anything else. He had his mares scattered, some sleeping and some grazing peacefully in the clearing they reside in, standing with their friends or by their lonesome.
Tobasco, standing at the highest point - but close to the herd - noticed all the mares had tensed, and pricked their ears. He stood tall and perked his ears, flared his nostrils and sniffed the air. He walked down carefully and as quietly as he could, but still alert. He stood under the moons light, the white on his coat bright and blue eyes sparkling. They didn't know what was coming, slowly inching closer. The wind shifted direction, coming towards Alejandro. He picked up the scent of the stallion that grazes with his herd close by. Alejandro risked coming into the older, larger stallions grazing spot, he was normally up further north past the hill he was on.
He was back, stepping into the open with what looked like the silhouette of some new mares, while Tobasco stood in front of his, prepared if he gets chased away. Two young, curious fillies where looking around, snorting in excitement and nickering to the other mares. One of Tobasco's mares yearling, Copper looked interested in one of the fillies, watching her move with grace and confidence. He was interested and stared longer than the other mares and his mother, not moving or looking away. A warm spring breeze had come along, ruffling his fluffy mane and tail. He had his mums flaxen mane and tail colour and his fathers dark sorrel coat. Tobasco had no clue who his father was, nor did he care. Copper got a feeling arise deep inside, he didn't know what it could be, or mean but it made him excited, like a ball of energy inside. He never felt anything like this before. He walked to the filly, too curious and ignoring his mums nickers calling him back.
The filly was about to go to sleep by her mums feet, tired and exhausted from all the walking she did to get here. Copper stood from a distance, stretching his neck out and sniffing around on the grass, slowly moving forward but keeping an eye on her mum watching her ears, prepared to run when they go flat on her head, but they didn't, she took no notice of him. Sniffing the red roan filly on the ground, she pricked her ears to the unusual feel of the unknown colts whiskers on her. The moonlight in her eyes made them shine bright, Copper could see his own reflection. The filly wasn't sure who this good looking colt was, or his name but she felt safe and secure, unworried. Soon shutting her eyes again, soon she was fast asleep. He looked to her mum, that looked around and up at the moon. Copper shivered, he felt as if he had been rolling in snow, there was something about this mare. She looked a bit different, she had a dished head, slender body and longer legs like an Arabian. The mares of Tobasco's herd where unsettled and disturbed by this mare, she looked ill and her foal unfed. Maybe something happened to her, she looked afraid and on edge but Copper had no clue what it could be.
The other stallion soon came over with pinned ears, making Alejandro move back to his spot further south down the gully. Alejandro was hesitant- he liked it here, it was a large area with fresh, crisp grass. He rounded up all his mares, Copper's mum calling to him to follow. The other stallion, getting impatient bared his teeth, nipping at Tobasco's rump, causing him to retaliate and kick his hind legs. He knew he had to move or there would be a big fight over the land, but his mares where stressed enough so he herded his mares away.
