The next day I woke up at dawn, as I always do to the loud noises of rooster. I slipped on my disgusting brown dress and tied my apron. I tip-toed up the stairs from the crudy basement and went to the door. A little stack of envelopes laid on the floor.
"Letters?" I went over and picked them up. We usually never got more then 1 or 2 letters a week, never 4 at a time. I looked at the address. "Miss Belinda, Miss Melinda, Lady Gruelda, and......Miss Cinderella?" I covered my mouth. I ripped open the letter.
Dear Miss Cinderella, We are proud to invite you to the Grand Ball of our Beloved Prince James Charming choosing him bride.
- Royal Castle
"Oh my God. T-The Grand Ball!" I accidently shouted. I froze. Oh my god. Why did I just do that?! I heard russling from upstairs. I dropped the letters. Belinda and Melinda ran down the stairs. "What?! The Grand Ball!" They exclaimed shoving past me and grabbing the letters.
The jumped up and down screaming so loud I could hardly hear Gruelda come down and yell for silence. "What are these?!" She asked agrily picking up her letter. "Invitiations?" She opened it up. "To The Grand Ball!" she embraced her daughters.
"Now you girls can become the queens you were born to be." She said. If only Belinda hadn't noticed the ripped letter near her feet. I sat quietly in the corner hoping they wouldn't notice me. "What is this?" She said snottily.
"Another one? But for who?" She glanced over it. "Cinderella!" She exclaimed. Melinda screamed. "She's invited!" They both yelled angrily. "Let me see this." She ripped it from her hand. "Well, well, well, looks like you have an invitation my dear." She said handing it to me.
"You not gonna let her go are you?!" They both asked. "Only if you can clean this whole house with a toothbrush and get ready by tonight, no including sewing my dearest daughter's dresses." She said looking me down.
I felt like crying, I would never get that all done by tonight. A tear fell. They all laughed. "Not like she would've been pretty enough to come anyway." Belinda said. They all laughed. "Now lets all get our beauty sleep. Except for you, Cinderella, you have some work to do." Gruelda said leading her daughters upstairs.
I sat on the floor and started scrubbing it with the toothbrush. I practically could've cleaned it with my tears. "My one chance........to be the queen. To...............sh-show my true beauty. T-torn away,.......just as fast............as it came........aaaahhh!" I sang as I scrubbed with tears still down my face.
