Through the small crack in the door, I can still see the person, crouched down.
"Pssssstt", I said, trying to get the person's attention. When it looked up, I saw a beautiful young face of a girl. She looked shocked to see me. She took a quick look around to see if there was anyone around, and then she crawled over to me. I had never seen anyone other than the Man in my whole life. She was gorgeous to look at - even though she had green eyes, just like the Man.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Mary Jane, daughter of the Man. You?" She said.
"Joseph Santoya." I replied.
"Are you related to the Man?" She asked.
"Well, I'm not sure..."
This girl had a soothing voice, that immediately made me feel better.
"Do you know a way out of here?" I asked.
"Why do you want to leave? You are coming to an en- I mean, of course I do!" She stammered.
She looked suspicious when she said that, but I ignored it.
"I've been stuck here for the last ten years, and I would love to get out of here." I said, desperately.
"Oh, me too! I have a plan. I can get my dad's keys to his car and give them to you. I'll distract him into leaving the staircase door open, so that you can get us help. Remember to stop at a white house, with the number 65 on it."
I was very excited to hear this. I can finally be free of this gloomy room, and possibly even find my family! Then my life will be perfectly normal.
"Okay, sounds grea-"
The sounds of footsteps cut me off. Mary and I went back to our places, pretending to have not moved at all.
He came into my room, locking the door behind him, when he staring at me, for I had started trembling. I was sweating, and shaking uncontrollably. The Man crept closer. I shook harder. With each step, my heart skipped a beat.
Then, I had an idea. I suddenly spit out the words, "No, don't do that! That's mine! Give it back to me you creep!"
I was trying to make the Man think that I was having a bad dream. Surprisingly, it worked. He threw a rock at me and told me to shut up, which I did, and then quietly went away.
As soon as he left, I whispered through the door, hoping Mary would hear me.
"Mary?" I asked nervously.
"Don't talk to me right now, i'll let you know when i've got the keys.
With that, our conversation came to an end, and I went to sleep.
The next few days were slow. Same old food. Same old visits. Same old rocks. I got my book with a number 1 on it. I didn't think of it much. It was about 9 o'clock when I heard a tap on the hallway door.
"I got the keys" whispered Mary.
"In about 15 minutes the Man will come in through the door. I'll have someone scream from here, to get his attention. I know that it will freak him out, and he'll come running. When he runs into here i'll slip the keys under the door to you. Then it's your turn. Good luck!"
15 minutes later, I heard steps from the staircase door, then a shrill scream. Just like Mary planned, The Man ran through the hallway door, leaving the staircase door open. As soon as he was gone I sneaked up the stairs. No lights were on, but I could see the moon glowing through the windows of the front door. I ran outside, stuffed the key into the car and drove. Surprisingly, it was easy. Like Mary had said, I stopped at a white house, with the number 65.
I ran inside. It was pitch dark. When I entered the house, I heard what sounded like a family having dinner, in the basement. As I walked towards the sound, it lead me to a descending staircase. I went down. It was still dark. I felt around, and found another door, open. I walked inside, bending down because of the low ceiling. As I crept farther into the tiny cave like hallway, I could see a faint glow in the distance. It looked like a room, so I walked inside.
And I regretted it.

Green Eyes
HorrorI stood in my dim room. Rock. Ouch. Another Rock. Ouch again. My arms dangling lifelessly off my sides, my legs stuck to the floor, my head pounding as the green-eyed man spoke to me in his torturing voice. "Won't you play with me today?"
