The kiss tasted like mint chocolate.
When Mutsumi unexpectedly kissed him, Shinomiya kissed back, hands holding the other boy's biceps as he stood on his tiptoes in the sand.
The girl who had been bothering Mu walked off, grumbling something about the hot ones being gay.
Shinomiya leaned forward as the other boy disconnected their mouths.
"I'm sorry, Shinomiya," apologized Mutsumi, letting go of his face. "I couldn't think of any other way."
"It's okay," Shi squeaked, the realization that they kissed very deeply suddenly hitting him. He took his hands off the taller boy's arms.
"If it helps any, you're a nice kisser," smiled Mu, a small blush on his cheeks.
"Okay, thank you," said Shinomiya, covering his own burning face with his hands, to discover melted ice cream all over his hands.
There was some ice cream on Mutsumi's biceps where he had held them before.
"It's all right, it'll wash off," chuckled Mu. "I wasn't expecting you to be so good at kissing, Shi."
Shi nodded, wondering why Mutsumi kept bringing it up again.
"I would definitely kiss you again, anytime you want," smiled Mutsumi.
"R-really?" Shinomiya almost fell down in the sand.
"Let me buy you a new ice cream cone," he continued. "Since you dropped the one you got."
Shi made a high pitched noise and followed Mu back to the ice cream hut.
The rest of the beach day went on without problem, apart from Serinuma getting a bloody nose when Igarashi and Nanashima gave each other a celebratory hug after winning a volleyball game.
Sunday passed in a flash, and Monday arrived like an illness: sleepy and annoying.
The rest of the group had not found out about the kiss, thankfully. Shinomiya stared at Mutsumi at lunch, wondering if he would tell. Also he was pretty, um, pretty okay to look at.
The way his brown hair fell against the sides of his face, and his kind green eyes watched as Nanashima was saying something.
"Shinomiya!" Nana snapped his fingers in his face. "Pay attention! Do you want to go to the mall with us after school?"
"Yeah," he nodded until it hurt his neck.
The others hadn't noticed, chatting about the new anime Serinuma and Nishina were enjoying.
"Ice skaters? It sounds too normal," Nanashima said.
The conversation progressed, and Shi glanced back at Mu only to find him watching him. Shi's face turned pink, and he quickly took a sip of his chocolate milk.
He got up the courage to glance again and Mutsumi hadn't stopped looking at him.
Shinomiya looked down at the food left on his tray, heart beating faster.
The bell rang, and everyone left for their classes.

The squad met near the mall's entrance, talking excitedly. The merch for one of Serinuma's favorite shows had been released.
Shinomiya followed behind as they walked, picking some lint off the dark gray tee shirt he had put on after school.
"I need to buy my mother's birthday present here," Mutsumi said. He wore a green cardigan over a white tee and jeans.
Shinomiya didn't remember seeing Mu in form-fitting pants before. The shorter boy licked his lips unconsciously as he noticed that Mutsumi actually had a shapely as-
"Would you like to join me, Shinomiya?" Mutsumi turned his head around to ask him.
"Yes," he replied, not remembering what he was joining him for.
