Laila and Laiqa were playing happily on the beautiful grass in the garden. They were so fond of the place that anytime their mother sent them out to play they headed there.

"Look" Laila pointed to Laiqa "the tomato is green, maama said it means its not yet ripe" she was trying to remove it.

Laiqa quickly removed Laila's hand "you said it's not yet ripe and you want to remove it?"

Laila smiled adorably "ok I won't".

Each of them got a ripe one, sat down again on the grass and started eating the tomato without minding to wash it, the red juice landed on their pinks t-shirts that was already dirty.

Laila and Laiqa were five(5) year old twins, they look so much alike which made it quite hard for people to differentiate between the duo even though they weren't identical. The only difference was that Laiqa was chubbier than Laila.

They were very pretty which made people fall in love with them at first sight, they talked a lot and were very brilliant for their age.

Their mother Zainab Ibrahim Mu'az was a Fulani woman from Gombe, they had her gentleness and the looks of their father.

She was cooking and they were disturbing her, touching this and that, asking silly and funny questions, and telling mischievous tales of their classmates, they were distracting her so she sent them out to play in the garden.

They were her loves, they made her life wonderful and she thanked Allah for having them, children are a blessing to the world. Their presence graced her life and they came when the world turned upside down to her.
She had admitted that she was addicted to them in ways a person can ever imagine.

After she'd finished, she arranged everything on the dining, then checked the time on her wristwatch, it was 2:30.

She entered into the bathroom and made their bathe water ready, the day was turning cold so a warm bath would help her girls get some rest.

She was about slipping in her slippers so that she could go out to call them when she heard a knock followed by a salam "wa alaikumus salam, come in" she answered slipping in the other slippers.

It was Fati Jibril her childhood friend, she came in smiling. After sitting down they exchanged pleasantries and Fati asked of the kids.

"You know them sarai ai, they were disturbing me so I sent them out to play ko zan sha iska, yara se surutu like parrots." Zainab shook her head.

"Zainab bawanin nan the twins are not disturbing ke de kawai kice kina son hutawa, in fact if they don't disturb you who would they disturb, you disturbed umma kema ai, so it's payback time."

Zainab laughed hard throwing her head back and forth "yes they're disturbing admit it or not, and I was very gentle when I was small, so ni banyi disturbing umma ba, you can ask her."

Fati eyed her "dallah matsa min, as if na manta, Zee kinyi shagwaba fah remember?"

Zainab chuckled "toh hajiya Fati mai tonon silili, I'm off to get them nikam before you dig into another thing, I don't even know what keeping them in the garden up till now, they've been there for almost an hour."

"Go and bring my babies nikam, kin cika surutu."

She served Fati the fried rice and chicken she finished cooking then went out to call the twins.

Immediately the went out, she saw water gushing powerfully out of the tap. She knew that was one of Laila and Laiqa's doings so she closed the tap shaking her head.

"Laila da Laiqa baza ku kashe ni ba, yara se gagara!" She turned off the tap.

The backyard was unusually quiet so she was very surprised because she knew the twins were talkatives.

She looked over the short garden wall and there was neither Laila nor Laiqa. Her eyes opened widely in surprise "toh fah, ina kukayi kuma, you two would never sit where you're asked to."

She opened the small wooden door that led to the garden then walked slowly looking here and there.

"Laila, Laiqa." She called out loudly and there was no answer.

"Laila, Laiqa, my babies, where are you girls? The hide and seek is over, come to maama because she's getting worried." She called out again but there was no answer and that made her heart skip a beat. Her head was already spinning, what if they were in trouble.

She kept calling thier names but there was nothing but silence. She sat down there thinking of where the children could be, a part of her was telling her something was amiss because her heart kept beating.

She got up and that was when she saw the tomatoes they were eating on the grass carpet. Her body started shaking again at the thought of her happiness. Only "what ifs" were going on in her mind. Where could the twins be? Was the question that kept running in her mind.

Her legs started shaking uncontrollably and she was feeling dizzy and sick at the same time. Tears were already flowing down her cheeks. She sat on the grass with her head on her kneels. Something deep inside was telling her that they were in trouble because she knew the twins never stayed quietly without talking.

After crying a little bit she raised her head up to clean the tears on her face, there was no use for crying, she was supposed to look around the house instead of sitting there.
