Chapter Two

As the morning rays of sun stream through the window Peeta wakes up and kisses me good morning. I blink as my eyes adjust to the bright sunshine coming through the window. Finally, my eyes adjust and I see Peeta's head above me. "Are you getting up at all?" he asks.

"I guess," I grumpily reply. I'm not a morning person and Peeta knows that. I walk into the bathroom and get washed and dressed. Then, I walk downstairs and smell and see Peeta making waffles.

Peeta hears me coming before I reach the table. "How many do you want?" He asks.

"Two," I reply. Two waffles flop onto my plate and I dig in. Peeta sits down with a couple waffles and starts to eat. The waffles are amazing, so soft and fluffy. Only Peeta could make waffles this good. Finally, Peeta breaks the silence.

"You know, I'm still not sure about Gale," he states.

"Me neither," I agree. "But you're the only guy I need, my boy with the bread." Honestly, that is something I would never say to most people, but Peeta did so much for me. He saved my life many times and gave up almost everything to be with me! So, I think I should start to repay him by at least getting a little mushy. His blue eyes so clear and bright. They make my heart melt. I finish my waffles and take my dish to the sink. Peeta follows shortly after and starts to wash both plates.

"Thanks," I say.

"No problem," Peeta answers. When Peeta finishes, we walk into the living room. He sits down on the couch and turns on the TV. I walk over and sit down next to him. He puts an arm around me and pulls me onto his lap. I get comfortable and lay my head on his chest. He kisses me on my head and rests his cheek on my head. We sit there for awhile a couple times we both fall asleep. When I wake up again it's night time. I gently shake Peeta and when he wakes, I tell him it's almost time for bed. I get up and help Peeta to his feet, we walk to the kitchen to grab something to eat before we go upstairs to bed. I'm not sure why both of us are still able to sleep since we slept almost all day but both of us fall asleep quickly.

Part Two

A few months later...

"Peeta come on we're going to be late," I shout up the stairs. "Okay, I'm coming, I'm coming," he calls back down. Finally, he walks down the stairs and we head out the door. Peeta and I are going to Annie's house because it's her birthday. When we reach her house, her son, Finnick Jr. is out playing in the yard.

"Hi Finnick!" Peeta and I shout to him.

"Hi Aunt Katniss and Uncle Peeta!" Finnick yells back. Finnick runs up to us and puts his arms around me. I give him a hug and ruffle his hair.

Peeta asks him if he's gotten taller and Finnick proudly says, "Yes!" Then he asks Peeta, "Up?" Since he's only 4 Peeta can easily lift him. So, Peeta lifts him up and we walk to their house. I ring the doorbell and Annie quickly comes to the door smiling.

"Hey, Katniss and Peeta. I see you've found Finnick." All of us glance at Peeta and see that Finnick is asleep on Peeta's shoulder. Peeta gentle hands him to Annie and she lays him on the couch to continue his nap.

"Happy birthday Annie!" Peeta and I tell her.

Peeta sits a container that I didn't know he was carrying on the table and opens it. Inside, is a beautiful frosted cake with "Happy Birthday Annie" written across the top and a bunch of small frosting flowers around the message. "It's beautiful! Thank you guys!" says Annie. I hand her a small wrapped gift. Annie carefully unwraps the gift and pulls out a small picture frame with a picture of the first Finnick in it.

"Awww, thank you! That is so nice of you!" gushes Annie. Happy tears spring in the corners of her eyes. Slowly, Finnick opens his eyes to find himself laying on the couch. He crawls onto my lap and rests his head on my arm. He's so sweet and he looks a lot like his dad, Finnick. Annie tells us what her and Finnick have been doing since the last time Peeta and I visited them in their new house in Victor's Village.

After the rebellion, Annie and Finnick moved into one of the extra houses in the Victor's Village and at least once every week, Peeta and I go and visit them. Finnick shifts in my lap and then goes back to sleep. Eventually, Peeta stands up and tells Annie that we should get going so I hand Finnick over to Annie and she gives Peeta and I a hug before we walk out the door.

As we're walking home Peeta stops me, looks me in the eyes, and asks, "Do you think we could have kids? Please."

"I don't know Peeta and you know that. Plus, we've only been married about 6 months." I reply.

"But, the games are over!! And I'd love to have kids!" He adds. "I'll think about it." I tell Peeta. Even though I probably won't because I'm scared. I love kids like Finnick and it would be nice to have little Peeta's and Katniss' running around but I still don't want them to have to go through everything we had to during our teen years. Peeta's face falls and we walk home in silence.

As soon as we're in the door, Peeta goes to the kitchen to bake. I head upstairs and lay down to think about things. Later on, Peeta comes up and leans in the doorway. "You know I'm not mad at you, right?" He suddenly says.

"I know." I reply.

"Katniss, if you're not ready for kids we can wait until you are." He adds. When I don't say anything, Peeta walks into the room and sits next to me on the bed. I end up collapsing against him as I start bawling.

"Peeta! You've done everything for me and all you want is kids but I'm not giving you the opportunity to do that!!" I cry.

"Shh it's okay Katniss as long as I have you I'm fine." He says as he hugs me tighter.

I stop crying and look up at him as I whimper, "Really?"

"Really." He reassures me. We sit there for a while with Peeta holding me and I leaning against him. A few hours later, Peeta tells me that we should probably go down and eat something. I agree and we walk down the stairs and into the kitchen.

Peeta asks me what I want to eat and I tell him, "Anything that you want." He pulls a can of stew out and heats it up. As we sit down to eat the stew, Peeta looks at me and notices that I've been watching him closely. "What's wrong Katniss?" He asks.

"Nothing." I answer.

"Are you sure?" Peeta asks.

"I guess." I respond. We finish the stew and wash the plates and spoons. Then, Peeta tells me to follow him. So I do.

He leads me into the living room and sits on the couch. Peeta then tells me to sit with him. I sit. "Is there anything wrong?" Peeta asks again and I reply, "Okay, Yes."

"What is it?" Peeta asks. He looks really concerned I tell him again about how I still think he's mad that I'm not ready to have kids. Peeta quickly assures me that he's not mad at all, we can wait until I am ready. He's so sweet, it almost brings tears to my eyes. He gently puts his arm around me, pulls me close, and tells me that he could never be mad at me. Inside, I'm thinking, awww. He's so sweet. I tell Peeta, "I don't know what I did to deserve you."

He answers with, "Nothing, I don't know what I did to deserve you either but, I love you."

"I love you too." I reply.

Then, we sit back to watch the Panem news. Eventually, we go back upstairs and climb into bed. After shifting around a bit, both of us fall asleep.
