Chapter 1
-Three Years Later-
I couldn’t believe it. My father’s corpse laid where my mother died three years ago. I just couldn’t believe it. My father who was the only one left in my world that I deeply trusted with all my fears and secrets was now gone and never coming back. My heart was beating faster than a race horse; I was in complete and utter shock. My world was crashing down on me.
“Now darling,” Angelica said her voice filled with pure evil. “This is our little secret, okay?”
“Eh.” I was too frightened to say one word to her. She twisted the dagger around in her hands, the one she killed my mother with and now my father. The look in her eyes made me gulp with fright.
She approached closer and closer with the dagger, staring me close into the eye but the tumbling and shouting coming from the police officers broke our silence as Angelica quickly ran to my father’s body, sobbing into his chest. She was clearly faking.
As the police entered, I still was standing silently, my body frozen with fear. I started to feel nauseous and dizzy. Everything started to fade away. As I began to fade away, white started to appear. I thought I was going to faint as everything disappeared from me.
“Aaahhh.” I screamed, whipping my head up. I was sweating like a waterfall. I tried to calm myself. It was just a dream, just a dream. But this actually wasn’t a dream. Angelica had killed my father a few months back.
“Maria!” I screamed. She was our servant but Angelica liked to call them slaves because after all they had to listen to what we said or it would be off with their heads. Angelica hated the slaves with a passion; well she hated everyone with a passion.
Since mother and father died Angelica had custody over me. It didn’t seem fair but Angelica was very persuasive and with her good looks anyone would do anything for her. She didn’t fool me though. Angelica treated me like a slave. My life was quite like Cinderella except there were no evil step sisters to go along with it. I had to do everything for Angelica, cook and clean. I had to listen to what she says. Her dagger was always with her.
“Yes dear.” Maria said with a gentle, squeaky voice.
“I need you to do something for me today.” I demanded, I usually wasn’t a demanding person who ordered people around but this was important, it was an escape out of my life here.
“Anything for you ma’am.” She squeaked. I guessed Maria was young and working for the royals, you got paid well. I felt sorry though, especially when Angelica was around. Maria was a fairly pretty girl though; her long chocolate brown hair reached to her shoulders and her skin was pale.
“I need you to take this to my father’s grave, don’t read it and most importantly don’t let Angelica see it or it would be the end of both of us.” I requested fiercely as I handed her the envelope. The envelope contained money, a letter to him, and my fathers will. I wasn’t going to let Angelica find it.
