"Watch your step," a disembodied voice droned at me.'Okay, whatever,' I sigh to myself. 'One.... Two.' I lift my gaze in the mirror room, zoning out the speak of "instructions" above me. Invisible door, check. LED lights in crisp rows, obnoxious and check. Weird floating orb in the center of the room, check. If this were bingo I'd knock the socks off my Abuela.
Anyways, word has it that within that orb lies the keys to my destiny; Whatever that means. I brush off that thought and carefully examine my reflection.
My honey blonde hair falls messily over my head, soot gray tips sticking out precariously, Hiro Hamada-style. Most people don't like it but I think it's perfectomundo! My button nose twitches annoyingly over my thin, pursed lips. 'Thanks for those, Mamá,' I growl to myself. My meadow green eyes, clouded over with anxiousness and curiosity, gaze deeply back into themselves. I quickly avert my orbs as looking into someone's eyes, even my own, cause my anxiety to skyrocket. My examination suit clings snugly to my golden brown skin so the sensors within can get an easy read. Imagine a white and gray wet suit with matching knee high boots. Believe me, it's that. Horrible, right?
I give myself a last once over then walk cautiously to the sphere of destiny.
'You've got this, León Hernández,' I coax to myself as I let my fingers graze the orb.
And just like that my world cut out to black!
