the pines seemed to weep in skye's current state. she was weary, treading softly on the dock. she kept her gaze pointedly locked on the benches, waiting for the mystery boy to appear. a black smear only stood there, a signal she was alone.
she slipped away her shoes, leaving them on the wood platform. her toes sunk into the wet sand, taking in the cold moisture with brief chills against her shoulders. her jacket hung loosely against her lanky frame, a thin frown on her pale lips.
skye was embarrassed. the thought of the shore was a pleasant piece in her mind frame, but last night it had made her want to absolutely cry and run away from it. but she forced herself to come, so she could be all alone.
or at least, that's what she originally had in mind.
then, he came, sitting right down, once again, on her very own bench. the one she used to sit on and eat the peanut butter and banana sandwich her mother made, just as she did when she was younger. he, that despicable boy, sat in her very own bench with his hands in his pocket, a bleak look in his eyes.
she scowled, making this low, daunting noise. the boy looked up, taking his head out of it's cradle in his arms. skye jumped a little, not expecting him to hear. he made an odd face, his small, pointy nose scrunching up, creases forming on his forehead.
skye felt a burning sensation run up her face, a hateful feeling coursing through her body. she turned away, her footsteps taking her back to her discarded shoes. she laced them quickly, her shaky fingers making it hard to tell which way to knot or cross.
there was no way she was ever going to be alone again on her shore with that boy taking up useless space on her bench.
and that made her absolutely furious. if that boy dare show his sad face tomorrow night, she was going to say something. pull the plug on whatever mischievous shenanigans he had in store for her, and then maybe she'd be at peace on her shore again.
