Erebus was downstairs looking through the refrigerator as I entered in a pair of his sweatpants and one of my hoodies, he looked up at me and smirked obviously happy with the fact his mate was in his clothes. I smiled and watched as he got out some creamer for his coffee and a mug, the smell of coffee roasting in the morning was always so comforting to me for some reason.
"I have to go out and do some pack work again today, but I'll be staying in the territory this time" he said while turning the other direction to mix the contents in the mug
"Well, then why don't I just come with you?" I didn't see why not since he'd be in the territory
"There are rogues starting to invade our borders and I'm going just to make it clear we won't allow that if there's any chance of it being a violent encounter I'd rather you not go."
"Oh alright" I replied simply while staring at the countertop, silently hoping there wouldn't be any aggression between the two sides although I'd heard many stories of rogues being violent around packs. Erebus looked toward me but I quickly masked my worry and looked up at him, he made his way over to me and put his hand on the back of my head before pressing his lips to my temple. I couldn't help but sigh at the soft touch and the protection that surrounded me when he got close, it was practically addictive now. His arms wound themselves around my torso and I titled my head back to look into his dark ocean eyes, he leaned forward to press his lips against mine before pulling away after I'd nearly lost my breath. With that he unwillingly stepped back letting his hands graze my sides before heading upstairs to get changed, I stood still for a few continued seconds before walking over and sitting down at the table.
Soon enough Erebus walked downstairs in a grey T-shirt and shorts which was the most comfortable outfit I'd ever seen him in so far. He walked over to me and as if on cue a knock sounded from the front door
"Come in" Erebus answered while looking towards the entrance
The creak of the door opening and footsteps sounded before Blake came out from behind the corner
"We're ready," he said while staring straight at him
Erebus nodded before turning towards me and giving me a short sweet kiss but in it, I could tell it was him telling me not to worry. But no matter how many times he reminded me not to it would always be in my head somewhere in these moments where there could be danger or violence and he'd be a part of it. Blake and him walked out together swiftly before, too soon it seemed, I was sitting alone in the dining room already wishing he'd come back. God why did I have to be so clingy all the time, I sighed at myself in annoyance before going upstairs to take a shower and get dressed in something a little more decent.
(4 hours later)
I was pacing in front of our bedroom window and each time I'd look out it would be the same, calm and quiet with no sign of Erebus returning. How long could it take an Alpha of the most feared pack in the world to scare off some rogues? If he didn't get back soon I'd go looking for him, my wolf could easily track him down with the mate bond on our side already. I quickly went to the bathroom and of course just as I was finishing washing my hands a commotion of voices sounded from outside. I bolted to the window and looked out to see exactly what I'd feared the most, exactly what Erebus had told me not to worry about was taking place right before my very eyes... he was in his wolf form laying on the ground, unconscious. Pack members huddled around him trying to see what had happened to their Alpha, something seemed to go off in my mind and my wolf growled out in protest. We were supposed to be down there protecting him and making sure he was going to be okay, we should have been there when he went to go find those rogues and we weren't and look what happened. It enraged me beyond belief. I turned on my heel and ran downstairs before swinging the front door open so it hit the wall with a slam, everyone around Erebus looked up at me in shock as I jumped off the porch and shifted to my wolf in midair. My paws padded against the dirt as I quickly jogged over to him while letting out a low growl to warn everyone off, it didn't matter if they were scared or angry with me because for the first time in my life I didn't care. Erebus wolf breathed heavily as he laid on his side letting the dirt seep into his pitch black fur, there was a bullet wound on his shoulder and back leg to my surprise. My wolf whimpered and pressed her snout to his cheek, nudging his head slightly. Gradually his eyes dragged open to look at me and he made a low huff sound in the back of his throat as something swirled in his eyes, a weak bark came from my chest to try and keep him awake for as long as possible. I was answered with a little bit louder huff sound again as he tilted his head back slightly to get a better view of me, I laid down beside him gently before resting my head in the hollow of his neck. In the distance, I could hear footsteps nearly running in our direction and it was for sure the ambulance coming since they were literally right across the street. Before I could get the chance to continue this time with my mate they were already asking me to step away and were lifting Erebus onto a large stretcher. Instead of following immediately I ran back into the house in wolf form and shifted in our bedroom to change then ran out the door again to the hospital. People looked up at me once I entered and quickly walked across the lounge area to the desk
