Saying/Phrase: "Why so serious?" "Do you know how I got these scars?"

Background:

Joker's background/origin is basically unknown due to it changing all the time going from him being in the "Red Hood" gang to him falling into a vat of chemicals during a robbery gone wrong in his work place to him gaining his scars from his drunkard father who went mad to a depressed wife who 'wanted him to smile more' to the Gotham version, so no one actually knows his true origin. Due to this slight, uh... conundrum... I'll be explaining as many of them as possible starting with the shorter two; but I'm warning you some might overlap.

"Depressed wife version"
he told this story to one Miss Rachel Dawes at the gala for Mr Harvey Dent in "The Dark Knight".
It's as the title says, his wife was depressed and kept complaining that he didn't smile enough so he took a razor to his face and craved in his 'Glasgow' smile (which has become his trademark). When his wife saw what he'd done she was shocked to say the least and didn't want anything to do with him and tried to leave which in turn angered him sending him over the edge and he killed his wife.

"The Mad, Drunk Father"
This story he told to Gambol (one of the mob bosses) in "The Dark Knight" before he killed him.
Joker was just a little boy when he received his scars from his drunkard of a father. One night well at dinner his father who was already drunk was making jokes, jokes which he and his mother didn't find very entertaining. Due to lack of laughter from his wife and son the man grew angry and asked them "Why so serious?" before smashing a bottle and using the sharp glass to murder his wife with. Once he had killed his wife he turned on to his son asking, "Why so serious?" before grabbing hold of a young Joker well saying, "Let put a smile on your face!" and slicing his cheeks open creating the 'Glasgow' smile.

"Red Hood Gang/Chemical Engineer"
I'm not sure where this story comes from.
The Joker used to be a comedian, a horrible one at that. And due to this he was unable to support his wife, and when it was revealed to him that his wife was pregnant he took rather drastic measure in order to try and support her. He decided to turn to a life of crime and joined the "Red Hood Gang'. Unfortunately during one of their heists things went wrong and they were chased into a chemical plant where, in an attempt to escape their pursuers The Joker ran over one of the catwalks and slipped and fell into a vat of chemicals. And that lead to whole string of events.
I have made these two as one due to their similarities, the only difference is that in the Chemical Engineer one he was the boss of the chemical plant and was chasing the criminals and slipped on the catwalk.

"Gotham/Jerome Valeska"
in this version The Joker was the son of a snake charmer and a psychic in a traveling circus know as Jerome Valeska. Jerome wasn't aware of who his father was until he was sixteen (I think). But when he found out he murdered his mother for it and hid her body on one of the wagons the circus had brought with. During this time they were in Gotham City and Jim Gordon was given the case. Needless to say it didn't last very long once Lee Tompkins (Jim's girlfriend at the time) gave the idea of using the snake charmers snake to track her. After that it was revealed who Jerome's father was and that Jerome was his mother's murderer and that he knew who his father was.
