Pairing: Stormpilot
Character: Finn

"Happy birthday, baby," said Poe as soon as Finn's eyes began to open, as the sun peeked through the window.

"Thanks," said Finn softly, huskily, because of his morning voice (or so Poe assumed).

"I know we have a crap ton of meetings today so we only get two hours to celebrate but I have a really great gift for you..." Poe said with a smile.

Finn sniffled, rolling over to face Poe better. "Do I have to wait or can I see it now?"

"I can show you now if you want," said Poe, sitting up and turning on his lamp on his bedside table. He reached into one of the drawers of the bedside table and pulled out a little brown package. "I know the wrapping's not the best, I just did what I could..."

"No, it's perfect," said Finn, taking it out of Poe's hand and holding it in anticipation in his.

"I know how birthdays are supposed to go, you blow out the candles on your cake and then open presents, so I grabbed a few pastries from the mess hall yesterday." He went over to the cooler in their room and got out the sweets and unwrapped them one by one and showed them to Finn.

"Looks really good, Poe, but I'm afraid I won't be one for those this morning," said Finn, scrunching his face up.

"Did I get the wrong kind?"

"No, no, I just don't feel too great..."

Was that Finn's imagination, or did he see Poe's eyes flicker expectantly for a second? Must be his imagination, because Poe was too kind to get excited or happy when his boyfriend didn't feel well. "Are you sick, dear?"

"I have a stuffy nose (I know you can't hear it because I got nasal drops last night), and it's draining down my throat and into my stomach," explained Finn, holding his stomach for demonstration.

"I can go to the mess hall to get you something a bit less crazy like the pastries. I know when you're s-sick you don't feel like eating crazy things like that," offered Poe.

"Hatchoo!" Finn sneezed out-of-the-blue, trying to turn as far away from Poe as he could. "Hushooo! Iptchhooo!"

He's not supposed to give me gifts on his birthday, thought Poe. It's not fair.

"No, I'm not too hungry now anyway. I want to see what you got me," said Finn, honing in on the present in his hand.

"Okay," said Poe excitedly.

Finn opened the wrapping and found a little silver Resistance badge inside. It had Poe's name on it.

"It's from my early flight days," explained Poe, "I put it on my suit to show everyone it was mine. Now I want you to wear it because you're mine."

Finn immediately brought Poe into a big hug, tearing up. "I love you, Poe. Thank you."

"I love you too, Finn. Happy birthday," Poe replied, kissing just below Finn's ear.

"I'm gonna sneeze again," breathed Finn.

Out of sheer compulsion, Poe hugged him tighter.

"Hshooo! Htchooo! Itssshhhooo!" Finn sneezed over Poe's shoulder, bumping their chests and hips together. That was when he felt it, Poe's reaction to his sneezing. However, Finn dismissed it as morning excitement.

"Bless you," Poe breathed against his ear, kissing his cheek.

"Thanks, babe," replied Finn with a sniffle. "By the way, I'm going to wear your pin forever."

"Sorry it wasn't more fancy," said Poe, flushed. "I would buy you the world if I could."

"You're so sweet, Poe. No, it's perfect. I understand we're in rough times and plus, I like the little sweet sentimental things more..." He said, affixing the pin to his shirt.

"Do you wanna lie down and cuddle? You probably have a hell of a headache, honey..." proposed Poe, rubbing Finn's cheek with his thumb.

"Yeah," said Finn with a grin. Then he sneezed some more, ducking down into his elbow. "Hptsch! Eiishooo!"

Poe pulled Finn down into the laying position next to him, holding him tightly.
