Victoria's Point Of View
"Mom. Come on! It'll be my first time in so long to go to the Philippines! And besides, I wanna see my grandmother!" It's been an hour and here I am, still persuading my mom on letting me go to the Philippines. "No Victoria! You'll just be encumbrance to your grandma there!" I can't believe she doesn't trust me on this one. "Mom! I'm 18. I think I know how to take care of myself already!" This time it wasn't a mellow voice anymore, I yelled at my mom. "You know what, Vic?! Fine! Go to the Philippines! But when you come back, don't speak to me about your grandmother." She stomped off the kitchen and went upstairs. "Yes! Victory!" I danced on my glory and saw my mom going outside. "Hey! Where are you going mom?" I asked. "Gonna book you an open flight ticket." She then went inside her car and disappeared. I ran upstairs to my room and quickly group called Anne, Francine and Rowena. "So?" Francine asked. "I'm going!" They all shrieked and giggled and asked me what I'll wear. "Can I come with you, Vic?! I think there'll be a lot of boys there!" Francine said and gave me the puppy eyes. "Are you crazy, France? That's Vic's vacation. You can come along when it's the four of us going." Rowena said and Francine blew a raspberry at her. "Well, good luck Vic!" "And take care!" "Always update us, okay?"
I am so lucky to have them as my best friends. I closed my laptop and headed downstairs and my mom just arrived handing me a ticket. "Took you the earliest flight possible. Here, you're leaving by the next morning." I accepted the tickets and gave my mom a kiss on the cheek and a tight hug. "You're the best, mom!" She then looked me in the eye and kissed my forehead and hugged me again. "No boys, okay? If there are, use protection, you got it? I don't want to be a grandmother yet. Now go pack your things already and say goodbye to your friends. How long are you gonna stay there, Vic?" She asked and I said, "5 months." At first she gave me the 'unacceptable' look but then she gave up and nodded. "Well, at least there's no one to boss around, right? And no secret parties while I'm at work for 5 months. I'm gonna miss you, baby." She hugged me again and I could feel her tightening the hug. "I'll miss you too, mom."
ㅡ ㅡ THE DAY OF DEPARTURE ㅡ ㅡ
As mom booked the earliest flight possible, I was bound to leave L.A. at 7 in the morning and there are rules that you have to be 2 hours early before departure. So I woke up at 4 and I woke my mother up. "Hurry up, Vic! You're such a snail!" I threw in my last bag in the trunk and sat on the front seat. "Let's go!" We drove to LAX airport for 20 minutes and my mom was held outside because only boarders get to go inside the airport for security reasons. "I love you, Victoria! Be careful!" My mom shouted and gave me a flying kiss. "I love you too, mom!" And I went to the waiting area.

LAX Airlines is pleased to announce the final boarding call for LAX Airlines flight JH414 to Beijing, China. All ticketed and confirmed passengers should now be on board the aircraft at gate 16.
I woke up at the last call and immediately gave the girl my ticket and hurried to gate 16. "Welcome to LAX airlines." They said and pointed out my seat. This is it. A short stop to China and we arrive at the Philippines! I took a sleep first because LAX to China takes 13 hours and from China to Philippines takes 3 hours which I'll be traveling 16 hours, gosh.
After hours of sleeping, the attendant told us to change our times on our watches because we have arrived at a place with a different time and she said that we will be landing on China at 8 more hours. So I took my favorite book out and read it, it's Lolita. It's a nice book actually.
Damn this, connecting flight. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich on board and it was very pricey but it was worth it. I spent 4 hours reading and eating and 3 hours of sleeping which means I now only have to wait 1 more hour to arrive at China.
"Ladies and gentlemen, as we start our descent, please make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright position. Make sure your seat belt is securely fastened and all carry-on luggage is stowed underneath the seat in front of you or in the overhead bins. Thank you." The flight attendant said and we did so.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Beijing Capital International Airport. Local time is 9:12 pm and the temperature is 17 celsius. For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the Fasten Seat Belt sign....." I can't believe it, I'm 4 more hours away to arriving at Manila! I'm so excited to meet my lola which is grandmother in Filipino.
