I didn't see the annoying boy with the long hair, more commonly known as Emerson, for the rest of the day. At last, I was safe from the annoyances he brought in. He thought I needed help with living. Like, really? No. I didn't need any help. I needed to focus on school, then get into a good university, and succeed in life. And that was just what I was going to do.
I lay down on the bed. I pulled the covers over my legs when I heard something hit the window. I pulled myself out of bed to check it out, opening up the window, only to be hit on the forehead by a pebble.
"Dammit! Who threw that?"
"Princess! It's me. Down here." I leaned out the window and looked down. Sure enough, Emerson was there, standing in the flower bed right below the window.
"Emerson! What the fuck are you doing here!"
"I came to take you some place."
"Uh, it's like midnight. Where do you wanna take me?" He was a confusing person. Who the hell shows up at your house at midnight and says they're gonna take you somewhere? Apparently him.
"I was thinking that we could go stargazing. Or something like that."
"You sound like this is a normal thing. Do you do this often? Show up at someone's house and offer to take them stargazing?"
"Nope, just you, princess." I couldn't see his face in the dark, but I could picture the cheeky smirk.
"Oh my god. Stop calling me that."
"Only if you come with me."
"I barely know you. Why would I come with you?"
"I dunno. You got in a car with me the other day." He wasn't wrong.
"That I did. What's the worst that could happen?"
"Well..."
"Actually, don't answer that. I'll be right down. Let me just put on some clothes."
"You don't have to if you don't want to."
"I don't have to come with you, or I don't have to put on clothes?" I grabbed today's jumper off the floor and pulled it over my head, knocking my glasses off my face.
"Well, I know I should say I meant coming with me, but I'm an honest person, so it was the other one."
"Sometimes honesty is not the way to go. Now is one of those times." I picked up my glasses and a pair of jeans, putting both on. I slipped on shoes. "I'm shutting the window now. I'll be out in a minute."
"God, what took you so long? It's not like there's that much house to go through." Emerson sat on the grass twirling it in his fingers.
"Okay, now that comment went into the zone of being an ass."
"Sorry. Sometimes I don't think about what comes out of my mouth. I'm very honest."
"More like you have no filter." He held out his hands. I grabbed them and yanked him off the ground. "Alright, so where are we doing this stargazing?"
"The field behind the school." He opened the car door for me. "After you, princess."
I rolled my eyes, but ignored the name. "I thought the school grounds closed after nine."
"Exactly. We're learning to be rebellious." He started the car, then pulled out of the drive. "Well, you're learning, I'm teaching." He sped down the street.
"Please slow down a little. You're gonna get us killed. I'm too young to die."
"Nobody's on the roads. You need to let loose. You worry too much." Despite his comment, it felt like we were going a little slower now. We pull into the school car park. He gets out of the car.
