"But-but... I trusted you! You said we had something!" This was not happening. Emerson was still the same. He still wanted me in his life. This wasn't happening. No. This was all a dream.
"You trusted me?" Emerson laughed, but the humour didn't reach his eyes. "Well there was your first mistake."
"But you said-"
He ran his long fingers through his hair. "Don't trust me. People like me, we need to change the people around us to make our lives worth something. We need power. I'm sorry, princess." He reached up to place his hand on my shoulder. I smacked it away.
"Don't call me that! I'm not your princess!"
As I walked away, I heard him whisper something that shattered my already broken heart:
"You'll always be my princess."
