Prologue.

CHRISTMAS BREAK

Lynne pulled up to the house she spent most of high school in, in her beat up silver corolla. She had just drove 15 hours to get home for Christmas. She didn't car how old she was, planes were never her thing. She stepped out of her car, in a t-shirt and cropped pants. Both of which were baggy on her. She pulled her black suitcase from the backseat and walked up to the house she made all kinds of memories in. When she opened the door, she could hear her moms loud voice in the kitchen.

"Hello?" Lynne said throughout the house. Her mom turned the corner and swooped her up in a ginormous hug.

"I missed you so much." Her mother said, on the verge of tears. She pulled back from the hug and was looking at Lynne still holding onto her skinny wrists. Her mother eyes her up and down, in a suspicious manner.

"Sissy!" She heard her little brother yell, and jump up on her.

"Tico, your too big to do that buddy." The weight of her 11 year old brother was about to crush her. He still hugged her.

"I made some food, I bet you're hungry." Her mother asked, still eyeing her daughter.

"Yes please." Lynne said, making her way to the kitchen.

***

As they were sitting down for Christmas dinner, just the 3 of them, Trista, Lynne's mom, watched Lynne pick at her food like bird.

"Alright, I can't watch you do this to yourself Karalynne." Her mother said.

"I have no idea what your-"

"Save it." Trista said, cutting off her daughter. "You honestly look like a bag of bones sitting here. Are you eating right over there?" She asked, with a concerned look. Lynne laughed.

"Mom I'm eating fine. You know I work out 6 days a week and I gave up meat." She said, pushing food around on her plate.

"No, you look like you haven't been eating." Her mother said, bluntly."Dont play stupid, you know we've been through this before Karalynne!" Her mother said, trying her very hardest not to start shouting. Lynne looked down at her plate.

"Okay, I'll tell you the situation," Lynne started. "A week before finals I wasn't eating everyday. I kind of just locked myself in my house and studied. And the week for finals. Even at work I didn't. Until Jack noticed at work and made me sit down with him and eat a veggie burger, then Jack took me to eat breakfast and so on and so forth. He didn't want stress to widdle me to nothing." Lynne said looking at her mother dead in the eyes. "He wouldn't let it happen even if I wanted to."

"At least I know someone's looking out for you over there." Her mom said, getting back to eating. "I just wish you would make an effort to make more friends." Lynne rolled her eyes at her moms last comment.

"You know I need to focus on my studies."

"Yea I do, but you should go out and have fun too. Like a normal 19 year old."

"Can we not talk about this now? I just got home and didn't plan on going back to Arizona until after New Years." She said slamming her fork on her plate.

"Fine." Her mom said, squeezing her lips in a tight line.

Ba-hum-bug, Lynne thought.
