I was driving back from a sleepover from Janna's that night. We had just turned the corner when the flashing blue and red lights of the four police cars hit us. I wasn't too worried until I saw who's house they were in front of; mine. My heart started to pound as I noticed two figures among the sea of uniforms standing on the lawn. It was my mom and dad. My dad had his arm over my mom's shoulders ,his face pained and sullen, as my mom held on to him like a child with tears streaming down her face. My mom never cries.
"We just think it's going to be a big help sweetie! Especially after the incident yesterday. We're not trying to make you upset or anything, I promise." My mom had just finished the end of one of those "we're doing something you're not going to like, but we're going to make it sound really positive and beneficial anyway" type speech. My dad was at work and so she took it upon herself to deliver the big news. You see, my parents aren't the type to give you a big heads up, they just "casually" drop a bomb. This unfortuneately doesn't benefit anyone, especially me.
"But mom, how can you do this?! I've been going to this school since grade one! What about Emily and Janna? I've been best friends with them since I was little! I'm happy with my life there!" I shouted back in exasperation. My mom was starting to lose her patience and rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"Listen to me sweetie, you'll be perfectly fine! We just think its a good time after all that happened in the past few days."
"No I won't! Moving schools won't erase the past mom! I'm not going to make any friends!"
"Oh don't be ridiculous! You'll make tons of friends." She replied completely ignoring my comment. "What about that time you were scared you weren't going to make any friends at summer camp? You made friends right off the bat."
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't remember? That girl who introduced herself right away and asked to be your friend? She seemed super nice!"
"Mom, that girl was mentally challenged. She asked the picture on the wall to be her friend too." It took my mom a few minutes to regain her composure and continue on.
"Well, anyways I'm sure this time will be different." she replied with a steady voice. No it won't, I wanted to scream, but a lump in my throat stopped me. I let out a low growl and stormed up the stairs to my room. I slammed my door shut hoping the loud noise would annoy my mom. How could she do this to me? I've been going to the same school, St.John's Girl's Academy, my whole life and now she wants me to switch to some public school...in the middle of the year?! All the anxiety in my mind had reached the surface. Things sped through my mind with lightning speed. The broken windows. Criminal on the loose. What would I tell Janna and Emily? How am I going to survive public school? What does my mom not understand? I was so emotionally overwhelmed I didn't know what to do. Hot tears threatened to spill over as I collapsed into a ball on my bed.
A whole hour had passed. My tears might have tried, but all the jumbled emotions still pulsed through my head with high intensity. I grabbed my phone from my bedside table and sent a text to my two best friends Emily and Janna.
Emergency meeting ASAP. Have some important news and I need you guys :(

I put my phone down and took in a ragged breath, rubbing my swollen out of my eyes. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something move. My head snapped in the direction of the shadow my heart pounding, but nothing was there. I let out a breath, laughing at myself a little. Wow, now I'm even seeing things. Just then the door open and Janna and Emily walked in.
Emergency meetings weren't something new to us. I remember our first one when in grade 7 when Janna's parents were getting a divorce. Me and Emily had rushed to her aid right away and had hugged while she bawled in our arms spitting out unintelligible words. I was so grateful to have them by my side at the moment.
"What's wrong hun?" Janna asked making a little pouty face. Emily nodded along making a little pouty face like Janna. I mentally debated how to tell them the news, but eventually I just came right out with it.
"I'm moving schools." Looks of shock and horror danced across their faces only to be replaced by the sadness in their eyes. The bad news wasn't over yet though. "Tomorrow."
I knew the move was going to be hard, but I didn't know it would change my life more drastically then I could ever Imagine.
