"Artificial insemination (AI) is the deliberate introduction of sperm into a female's uterus or cervix for the purpose of achieving a pregnancy through in vivo fertilization by means other than sexual intercourse."

"Tanya, are you sure about this? I mean, considering the fact that you're on your own with this, are you sure that you're ready?" Dr. Wales asked me again. Jeez, kelangan ko ba gumawa ng recorded audio clip saying na I've already made up my mind regarding this matter?

"Yes, doc." I nodded with all the patience remaining in me. "I've been preparing myself for this since last year. Besides, I've been saving money for the baby. Readyng ready na po ako, doc." I calmly explained feeling a bit uneasy with all these people surrounding me. May tatlong nurse kasi na mag aassist daw sa procedure na gagawin.

"Okay then. Please sign these papers." He handed me over three documents that read 'Agreement' on top of it. "This will serve as an agreement between you and this facility. You will be allowed to chose your own preferences, like what you want your baby to look like, the race, hair color, eye color, anything." He continued explaining habang binabasa ko din yung nakasulat sa mga documents. "You can also choose the specific gender you would want the baby to have, but we will be conducting an additional process for that."

"I see," I looked at him and nodded in agreement. Gender? What would I like my baby to be? I've thought of having a baby girl para may makasama ako sa mga girly stuffs like yung mother-and-daughter get up na uso sa mga social media sites ngayon. But on the other hand, I've also thought of having a baby boy para may magtanggol sa akin if ever and may makasama ako since wala naman akong balak mag asawa. I've even thought about a name already. Pero I wanted to have both. Argh. Ang hirap naman! Bahala na, I guess I'll just let my fate pick whatever baby I'd have para may thrill.

"The second agreement states that the facility wont be liable of any maternal expenses that you will be having once you have been conceived. You can have your check-ups here since we will be monitoring you and the baby for two months until almost fully developed na ang bata. In that case, you will be assured that the baby is in good condition. You know, this process may be abit complicated although it's just as easy as 1 2 3."

I was just earnestly listening to his explanation. I've been reading articles about inseminations kaya mejo familiar and aware ako sa mga process, agreements and procedures na kailangan gawin. I told you, I've been preparing my self for this.

"The last agreement is an agreement regarding the donor of the sperm you would be using. The donor will be completely anonymous, the facility keeps all the donors identities unknown. With that, it is clear na wala syang magiging pananagutan sa magiging baby mo."

Uhum, I'm aware of that. And I think it would be better that way. Mas gusto ko naman yun para focused lang ako sa baby.

"Here," He lead me and the nurses to a room na parang restricted lang to employees. "This is the room where we store all the frozen sperms na donated from different parts of the globe. Actually, patients are not allowed to enter this room but since you are the daughter of Ofelia, I would like you to personally chose your sperm-baby." He smiled. College friends kasi sila ni mama, maybe that's why I'm having this special treatment.

My eyes widened in fascination. I've felt nervous and excited at the same time. I mean seeing bunch of containers with sperms in them, one of those will be my baby. I roamed my eyes, and saw different descriptions on top of every drawers. I honestly haven't thought about what the baby would look like. I just wanted to have a baby, that's it.

After a few seconds, my eyes got locked up on one specific container. Something's different with this one. It's kind of glowing and somewhat reddish at the same time but would suddenly change to its creamy white color. The color caught my eyes. Nilapitan ko. Hindi kaya expired na tong isang to?

"Uhm, Doc, is this expired?" I asked innocently, pointing to the container not knowing the right terms na pwedeng gamitin.

He chuckled a little with my innocence. "No. They don't get 'expired'. May mga donations dito that's been 30 years frozen. You just know they don't work after two months of inseminating, kung nakabuo ba sya ng baby or not. Why, why'd you ask?"

"Uhm, nothing." I shook my head, alangang sabihin ko yung nakita kong color changes? Baka tawanan pa nila ako. Nakakahiya.

Nakailang minutes na akong nagiisip kung anong sperm ang pipiliin ko. Can I just choose all of them para sure na magkaka baby ako?

"Can I just pick all of them para sure ball?" Wala kasi akong mapili. Wala akong alam actually. I just wanted to have a baby, di ko naman alam na may gantong pagdadaanan pa ako. Inikot ko ulit yung mata ko sa room, at nabaling ulit yung tingin ko dun sa glowing sperm. It glowed again! It feels like it's calling out for me. Or namamalik mata lang ako? But the feeling in the guts, so strong.

"Then you gonna have to pay for all of them" Dr. Wales smiled and laughed.

"Okay, I'll just choose the expired one." A glowing baby may not be bad after all.

"Alright, we'll be making your baby in no time." Then they all smiled at me.

Uhm, sure? I'm ready to be a virgin mom!
