I always hated my birthday.
Things are very different, living in care. Especially when it's a stupid run down place with not enough room to swing a cat and basically no money. The birthdays are especially crap.
The main house rule is that everyone has to be up at 7:00 AM and go to bed at 8:00 PM. If you break this house rule the head care worker , Jenny, will lock you up in The Cupboard for a week, no exeptions. Not even on special occasions.
At least when it's someone's 16th they actually try and make an effort. Faded birthday banner, plain cake and one present which is normally something stupid like a pen or book.
So, whats the reason they only make an effort for a kids 16th I hear you ask, it's because it's Soulmate Day. When a kid turns 16, they get the name of their soulmate tattooed on their wrist with no way of removing or changing it. Something to do with keeping the population down because the government can't afford to be feeding and homing so many people. So its set in stone, you can only be with that one person.
Forever.
I hate this stupid system. You can't be a free person.
