3 Know your resources.
if you know your resources you will be able to build weapons, blocks and even traps easier. here are some resources:
Iron-this is a very useful resource for almost everything. used to make rails, tools, blocks, armour and muck more that can be crafted.
Gold-Not as strong as iron but is also used for rails, Powered rails to be exact. Do not use this substance for Armour or Weapons because it will not last very long but is very effective. Used mostly for decorations and contraptions.
Cobblestone-this is the most used block in Minecraft. It can be crafted into a furnace with 8 blocks as well as tools. if you haven't found Iron or have little iron use this for tools they are durable and mine fast if melted in a furnace makes stone which can be crafted into stone bricks.
Wood-This is the first block you should get because it is the most useful and easiest to get besides dirt. you can also build weapons and torches with it.
Redstone-redstone is like the power source in minecraft. redstone is light, powered rails and even traps.
Obsidian this is the strongest obtainable block and can only be mined by a diamond pickaxe. it is created by water poured over lava.
Stone this resource is found by cooking cobblestone in a furnace.
Sand sand falls whitch makes it deadly and i wont even tell you how many times i deid from it falling on me. it can be crafted into sandstone in a crafting table.
Gravel this resource also falls and is deadly when mining. sometimes gives flint when mined and is useless except for that.
sandstone this is under sand and can be crafted by 4 sand. spiders cannot climb it and can be made into different types of sandstone.
