We didn't talk too much. I guess we didn't need to. That night on the roof. The woollen blanket over our legs, our knees rubbing against each other. She was pointing out stars, her fingers gently brushing against my pinkie every so often. She had clear black glasses that rested on her freckled nose, her hair in a messy knot above her head, stray ginger strands flirting with the quite wind. It was dark, the dull light from neighbouring houses and the lonely street lamps illuminating the wide road. Sadie's phone was playing music, sticky fingers echoing through the muffled laughs and scattered engines. It was quite other than that. They didn't speak, only whispered hums acknowledging each other's presence. Millie always had a thing for stars and space, the universe. The way it spiralled, slowly sung, it was never ending. Infinite as her teacher from grade two said. It was a little funny though that Millie's love for the universe was ignited by Sadie and carried on by her even though death, because Sadie had dropped and Millie went spiralling, she fell down a whole an infinite place only she knew of. Stuck, trapped, her tiny universe. Millie had always joked about killing Sadie sink, her delirious giggles had stopped as soon her stupid little joke came true.
Whoops.
