Chapter 1

~My Lies~

He bit his lip and sighed. "Kate, I like you, as kinda, a friend. I hope this doesn't come between our friendship." I didn't know what to say. You idiot! Why don't you like me? Why are you so blind when a great person is standing right in front of you? Instead I said, "oh, yeah sure. See you around." I walked away fast so he couldn't see my embarrassment. I could just scream! I was so angry a Devvin. How could he do that to me?

Bleep! I jumped. My phone was just getting a text. I read the text. It was from Mimi. "Wazup with Devvin? Did he say yes?" I typed violently. "Nope. And he never will" it said that she read that. I could feel the text saying "sorry hon" I hated everyone. But, this isn't why I wanted to kill myself. An emoji popped up of a frowning smiley face. I felt a little better considering she knew I didn't want to read a long "sorry" text. That's why she was my best friend. She knew me well.

When I got home my mum left me a note of what I could have for dinner on the fridge. You see, my mum works the night shift and my dad passed away when I was a kid. A bit cliché I know. I have a younger brother name Charlie. He's 16 and I'm 18. Two year difference. Usually it's just us at the dinner table and occasionally Mimi too. I ran up to my room to go on Facebook. I looked up Devvin's Facebook and I almost unfriended him when I noticed that he had already unfriended me! What a jerk. I decided to block him and closed my laptop.

After dinner, I went upstairs to do my homework. I couldn't concentrate on any of my math or science. I guess I'll call it a night. As I lay in my bed, I could only think about that stupid guy. Why do I still like him? He's a jerk. But, there is something about him that I will always love. I closed my eyes hoping for sleep to come drudging by, but it didn't. I could hear Charlie snoring down the hall. I need to sleep and get Devvin out of my mind. My mind swirls with so many thoughts I couldn't even think.

That next morning, on my way to school, I got a text from Devvin. "Hey Kate, so, are we still friends?" I decided to ignore his text and keep walking. From behind me, I heard a voice. "So..are we?" I jumped. Devvin was right behind me with his phone out. His frown put indents into his acne-free perfect forehead. "I guess." I kept walking hoping he would just go away but he didn't. "Why not?" I stopped turned around. "Look Devvin, I just want you to go away." Not one of my best lines. His shining blue eyes got a hint of sadness. He walked in the other direction and ran. I felt horrible what I had said to him.

But, I couldn't text him now.
