BEASTS WITHIN
I walked towards the Alphas house. The ceremony was supposed to happen in the woods, but the path that led to it was behind the house. Danny and Hana are currently accompanying me, however, they were starting to make me feel a little like a third wheel.
The pups fell asleep and so I left Kai to watch over them in my den. Roran stayed behind to watch over Katrina, who should be waking soon. The other two Wolves, whom I've learned are adoptive brothers to Roran, stayed behind to watch over him and Katrina. I believe that their names are Night and Shade, Night being a year older than Shade.
The moon was almost at its peak as I entered the forest path, the tree line acting like a barrier to another world as shadows instantly fell on us. The rustling of the leaves on the branches seemed to echo around us, our footsteps barely being registered as sound. A gentle breeze tugged at the tips of my hair, as though someone were beckoning me onward.
We walked for nigh on ten minutes before we could hear the chorus of music from within the forest. The ceremony had started for the moon was about to reach its peak. With every step, the song, which the pack was singing to welcome the moon, grew louder and louder. It is an ancient song which all Wolves learn from their pack and their families, past down from generation to generation. Some would sing it as their Wolf would, as others in an ancient human tongue.
The moment that we arrived, the moon came out from under a cloud, allowing it's silvery light to fall on the crowd of Werewolves, in the clearing, in the middle of the forest. There were Wolves all over; at the edge of the trees and in the clearing itself, all facing the very middle of the clearing where a spherical rock stood. This rock was shaped very much like the moon overhead, and just behind this rock stood the sapling of a tree.
Since our Goddess Diana watched over animals, the hunt and the moon, the tree and he rock were both thoughtful dedications to her.
As I was about to join in with the song, I spotted Dene in the distant crowd, motioning for me to join him. I slowly made my way through the crowd of Werewolves, earning many glares from people who considered this as a sacred event, and eventually got close enough to hear what he wanted to say.
"Stand between the rock and the tree in the middle of the clearing, hold your arms up to the sky and close your eyes. You can stop when the song ends, and start when the moon is a minute past midnight."
I glared at him, for I knew that the song lasted for many hours into the morning, but I also knew that this was an important part which determines ones stamina and fortitude. I will not lose.
As soon as the moon reached its peak at midnight, I was already beside my position, counting the seconds down. As soon as I reached sixty I walked into the shafts of moonlight which seemed to illuminate the path between the moon replication and the sapling at that very moment. I closed my eyes as the song turned into a moment of silence, during which I was supposed to raise my arms into the air and hold them there until the end of the song.
I stood still as a gust of wind blew my way and on it carried the most delicious sent. Instantly, my Wolf went wild, clawing at the edges of my consciousness to try and gain control of our body. I twitched as the song started up again, reminding me that I had to stay still, not open my eyes and start my long awaited search for the one who could be my potential mate. One thing that I was certain in of; he stood in front of me for the wind picked up slowly and brushed my hair from my face.
