It was 5 PM, the girls stared at each other for the longest time. They were trying to soak up the different features they all possessed. They hadn't spoken for a long time, let alone talk to each other.
But, it was time. Time for them to speak about the past.
None of them wanted to be the bad guy in the relationship, but all five of them knew that their fall out was somehow, indeed, their fault.
They couldn't blame the papers coming in their direction, or their own personal issues. It was all their fault. They were all selfish enough to damage their friendship in a time of need.
Rhea seemed to have changed the most. Her eyes held maturity and happiness rather than the terrible bags she suffered through in high school due to cramming and finals.
Kennedy, on the other hand, had playfulness displayed on her face, but instead of manipulation, her presence reflected humor, and kindness.
Alexis looked like a princess, but held a halo of confidence and pride in her aura. She looked exactly like a supermodel, but it was obvious she was dressed for herself and not someone else.
Livia lost the naivety and replaced it with mysteriousness and curiosity. Her cheekbones were more defined now, and she looked a lot older. More mature.
Zara let go of her dreams and was down-to-Earth now. She looked reachable, and didn't have a fake smile plastered all over her gentle features. She looked Zara.
Each one of them felt the need to start talking, but they all stopped after taking a breath. Even the short intakes of breaths caused each one of them to reminisce.
The door slammed shut.
They all turned to look at the couple staring at all five girls.
"Welcome back, Girls," the pair said together.
The girls looked at each other, and sighed.
They all knew that they had only themselves to blame, but what would have happened if they hadn't been on the beach that day.
If they hadn't gone out to explore, would they be in the same shoes.
They all had their heart broken, one way or another, and they hadn't spoken in years, but they had a connection: The thing they once thought was their lifeline.
They thought back to that eventful year, and wished they hadn't been so selfish.
