She's never committed to a serious relationship.

As the enthusiastic, fun-loving one, she's always been overlooked by the people around her - everyone's cup of tea, as opposed to one's shot of vodka. Or perhaps it was the fact that she had always been rather introverted, preferring the company of books and movies to that of a flesh and blood partner.

The reality of it was a little more complicated.

In middle school, she sent overzealous messages to the boy she liked with far too many emoticons, late at night when she should have been in bed. In high school, she sent several texts to the guy in her math class whom she fancied, deeming them to be "accidental" in hopes that she could strike up a conversation. She would stalk and stalk for hours on end, but it seemed she could never walk the talk or make a move.

She had always been more invested in the idea of romance, the sort of soul-wrenching, heart-dropping stuff that movies were made of. She wanted it all; and, she would not let it go.

If she were honest with herself, it boiled down to envy, a desire for something that was out of reach. She had never handled it well, having always been the sort to bottle up her feelings. Instead, she would criticize herself in the mirror and hover over the keyboard of her phone in search of witty and flirtatious responses. She wanted, desperately, to be liked.

And eventually, she found her happily-ever-after, in the comfort of hazel-eyes and tousled blond hair - a boy named Greg who sat at the far end of the lecture hall. Of course, he didn't know she existed. But that would change.
