Heyo peeps! This will be a bit different then normal, but it was a big moment in my horse career so I'm going to do a story time.
Back in October I think, my dad and I came to the barn around sunset to work on my science fair project. When we got there, my trainer Katrina was leaving, so we were alone. I hopped the fence to go get Perfect from her paddock (which took like 20 min cause she was being stubborn) and we hitched her up to the crossties. We were about halfway done with the experiment when my dad cried out and ran away.
I looked after him and saw that Ben and Freya, the escape artists, had gotten out of the field and were freely grazing. My dad was freaking out, so I had him stay with Perfect (who was an angel thank gods).
I grabbed Freya's halter and she was easier to convince, but still stubborn and being a big scary draft I had my dad grab some hay to lead her back into the field. Even though she was less work leading her took like half an hour because she was on the other side of the property.
Ben was properly enjoying himself so he alone took an hour to lead, even with hay and stuff. That's when my dad realized how much I truly loved being with and around horses.
We finished our experiment and threw Perfect back in the paddock before we went home.
My dad told me afterward that he knew how serious I was about pursuing equitation as a career because of this experience.
To this day, that's still one of my proudest moments.
