I didn't know where to turn.
My uncle was home, I had really nothing in my bag, and I was confused about why I even cared that my best friend and freaking Daniel Weiss were doing it at this very moment.
I ran down the street and crossed to the sidewalk on the other side, taking me down a pretty foreign direction. Emma had always told me that this was where the "gangs" hung out; I would always laugh and shake my head at the thought of gangs being in this neighborhood.
"GET BACK HERE, YA LITTLE F***!" I abruptly stopped in my tracks as I was surpassed by a worn-down guy about my age being chased my a middle-aged man. The man shoved me as he passed, and I fell onto the street.
"God, why does Emma have to be right about everything?" I murmered, pulling myself off the road and back onto the sidewalk.
I kept at a brisk pace for awhile until I found a road I recognized: the same one that led me to school. I scolded myself for always trying to find a way back to the one place I hated most. But, after much thought, I trekked all the way there and found myself sitting on one of the swings. Not our swings, of course, but the swings that were in the park adjacent to the school.
As I sat there, silently swinging, I felt my eyes start to water. "Oh my God," I murmered, whiping them off my face, "How pathetic can I get?"
But they wouldn't go away. Every time I rubbed them out of my eyes, they still reappeared.
I soon found myself quietly sobbing on a disgusting, decades-old swing, having nothing but an empty bag and sunglasses.
