*Bret’s P.O.V.*
“Really? I thought you’d get a lot. You’re a pretty cute guy.”
Did he just… uh… what? I blushed deeply and looked away for a moment, but when I looked back in his direction he was gone. I blinked a few times and looked at Bryan confusedly, and he just shrugged. Andy laughed and shook his head. He was about to say something, but I quickly got away as well, feeling way too embarrassed to stay near them.
What the hell just happened? Ronnie thought I was cute? No, he was probably being sarcastic. There’s a reason why I don’t get many “cute tweets”…
I went over to the bar and grabbed the bottle of whiskey and without thinking I took several quick gulps, setting it back down and coughing.
I was embarrassed as hell and I was at a party, so why the fuck not?
I walked around aimlessly and bumped into someone who I’m pretty sure was Danny Worsnop, but what the fuck did I know? Could have been some random dude with a beard. Anyway, I kept walking until I ran into Jinxx, who was watching CC cling to Jake across the room like a little kid who needed attention.
“I swear he has a thing for him…” Jinxx muttered, then looked at me with a smile, “Hey Bret, how you doin’?”
I pursed my lips and thought for a second, “Fine… ish… ly drunk.”
He raised an eyebrow and laughed, “‘Fine-ish-ly drunk’… alright then. Seems a little early in the party to be drunk?”
I shrugged and almost fell over, and Jinxx had to reach his arms out and keep me up. “Looks like someone’s not driving.”
I patted his shoulder and smiled, “You… Y-you’re nice.”
He laughed again and made sure I was steady before letting go of me, “Just be careful, ‘kay?”
I nodded and randomly walked off again, wanting to find someone new to talk to. I got weirdly social when I was plastered. I was walking through all of the people when someone backed into me, and I stumbled backwards and into someone else who shoved me from behind.
“Watch where you’re going, bitch!”
I fell on my arm and groaned at the pain, then clumsily got up and glared at the guy who shoved me, “What the, the fuck is your problem man??”
“Go suck a dick, you scrawny little piece of shit.”
I clenched my jaw and fists and I don’t know what came over me, whether it was the alcohol or just having enough of everyone’s bullying, but I suddenly stepped forward and swung my fist at his face. I felt a strange sense of satisfaction as I hit him, my rings making it even more painful. He recovered and looked at me with a furious expression, and I was now terrified.
I’ve never actually fought, I’ve only been hit. I couldn’t imagine how worse it would be for me after throwing the first punch.
Before I could react, he hit me right in the eye making me cry out in pain as I fell to the ground. I could tell that the people around us started to quiet down, noticing what was happening, but no one went to help me as the guy bent down and practically straddled me as he started hitting me repeatedly. I did my best to curl into a ball and cover my face with my arms, now crying from the pain.
“Stop!!” I screamed.
All of a sudden he was off of me, and I hesitantly opened my eyes to see him on the floor being beaten up by someone else.
It was Ronnie.
I tried to stay focused but failed as I sobbed a few times. Bryan ran over and helped me up as Andy and Ashley went to break the fight up.
“Are you ok?” Bryan asked as he kept me up, and I just sobbed again as I tried not to fall. Andy pulled Ronnie away from the guy who was now being thrown out by Ashley, and Ronnie looked at me and came over, taking me from Bryan and finding somewhere for me to sit down. He walked me over to a couch and gently sat me down as he told the guys to get me some ice. He looked at me carefully, and I averted my eyes from his gaze, feeling weird from all this attention.
“What hurts the most?” he asked.
I took a few seconds before pointing to my left eye and answering in a shaky voice, “M-my eye.”
He seemed upset, and Andy came over and handed him an icepack. “You need anything else?”
Ronnie shook his head and very gently placed the icepack over my eye, and he grabbed my bangle-covered wrist instructing me to hold it myself. After a few moments, I looked at him and said quietly “Thank you.”
He forced a small smile and shook his head again, “It’s fine.”
He sat there for a second to make sure I was fine, then stood up and looked at me. “I’ll be right back, I’m going to go pull the car up to the entrance so you don’t have to walk as far; it’d probably be a good idea to get you out of here.”
I glanced up at him and nodded, but winced at the pain from doing so. He frowned, then turned and left.
I really should have just stayed home.
