Chapter 2
Intent on making the most of their Friday night, DeSean, Donte, and Latavius hopped into Donte's Challenger and headed to a house party out in Pine Hills. Driving through a subdivision off Silver Star Road, they instantly began to vibe as they were invited by the thunderous bass from the loud music. Donte parallel-parked next to a white Dodge Charger. Exiting the vehicle, they all inhaled the potent haze of marijuana smoke drifting in the air as they were each handed cups of straight Hennessy.
The trio hadn't been on the scene a good ten minutes before the promiscuous girls dressed in provocative clothing were already flocking in their direction, all working overtime to hopefully accompany one of them to an empty bedroom inside. DeSean only went to a small college in South Florida, but his skills on the court were slowly attracting attention throughout the state and in his own city. However, Donte and Latavius were well-known throughout the city, too…but for very different reasons. Also known as Gutta and Trigga, respectively, they were hood stars and gained notoriety over the years for pulling capers. As Donte and Latavius began to turn up from the music blasting through the speakers, their friends, Citrell and LaShon, emerged from the white Charger and came to join them. The group's charisma was so magnetizing, everyone began to gather around the crew in hopes of appearing cool by association.
"Ay! Ay, Red!" LaShon addressed a petite girl with a honey complexion. Her long, black hair was pulled up in a high ponytail, and an electric blue mini dress clung to her tiny frame. "Ay girl, come here. Let me talk to you."
The girl in blue turned to LaShon with her face twisted up with attitude. "I don't talk to strangers."
Everyone in earshot erupted in laughter. "Fuck you, then…skinny ass bitch!" LaShon yelled, mostly out of embarrassment.
The petite young lady simply smiled tauntingly. DeSean chuckled. No female had ever dissed a member of his crew. This girl had just successfully gained DeSean's attention. Before the girl turned away, she momentarily made eye contact with DeSean. They silently gazed at each other for several seconds before she turned to catch up with her voluptuous friend. DeSean's eyes stayed trained on her until she disappeared into the house, where the music was coming from.
Noticing more and more people were assembling around him and his boys, it was DeSean's cue to leave. For as well liked as he was, DeSean cringed amid large crowds. DeSean parted from the growing sea of people. Several girls desperately vied for his attention as he walked away. It didn't hurt that his name and stats were plastered all over the local news, but he was also easy on the eyes. His low cut was edged with precision and his tall, chocolate frame was well defined and littered in ink. His dark eyes made him a mystery that many females were determined to solve. Unfortunately for them, DeSean only had eyes for the girl who owned his heart.
After grabbing a beer from the kitchen and only having been inside for less than an hour, DeSean started to head toward the front door to get some air. Just as he made it to the front of the home, he locked eyes with the fair-skinned beauty from earlier. Under his gaze, most girls would have either blushed and looked away, or eyed him seductively. But the thin, sexy girl dancing in the tight blue dress confidently held his stare. For the life of him, he couldn't read her. She stared back at DeSean, almost daring him to look away as her body became one with the music. Suddenly, a different song flowed from the speakers. It must have been her jam because she broke her gaze away from DeSean and turned to her friend. An infectious, bright smile stretched across her face. Not many females had the ability to keep his interest, but there was something about this girl that had him curious and caused everyone else in the room to disappear.
DeSean ran his hands down his face. His thoughts had him feeling guilty. The love of his life was at home, probably asleep by now, while he was at a party entranced by another girl. He turned his focus elsewhere to see what else was going on. Before he could turn back to see this girl who stole his attention, he felt someone's body gyrating against him. When he looked down, it was her. He inhaled a beautiful scent over the strong stench of weed, alcohol, and musk wafting through the house.
