Jess was lethargic. She had been listless, quiet. Very unlike herself.
Sal hated seeing her this way.
When she wasn't up for anything, he insisted she stayed with him. This didn't seem to lift her spirits much. She was apologetic about her mood and offered to go back home.
Sal didn't know how to reassure her it was fine. Everyone had these kinds of days, of weeks.
On the third morning of her stay inspiration hit him.
Nothing made Jess happier than when he made he laugh.Sal put a gentle hand on her shoulder, kissing her temple. She looked from the window to him and offered a smile. "Baby, why don't you take a hot shower and I'll get us some breakfast?"
Jess chuckled. "You can't cook."
"I'll order in."
"Can we get those cinnamon roll pancakes?"
Sal kissed her cheek. "Sure, sure, anything. Go on now, I'm going to order."Jess sauntered to the shower, lazily dropping her robe. Sal bit his knuckle.
The second that door closed he rushed to his closet, trying to be quiet while ordering food.He pulled out a space helmet.
He silently thanked his friends for that hellish punishment, turned out it had a use.
He fished out silver boxers, shaking his head at himself.Anything to make Jess laugh.
It wasn't long before he heard the water turn off. He haphazardly threw on the helmet, wearing nothing but it and the boxers.
When Jess walked out drying her hair, she didn't notice him at first.
"Sal to Houston, we have spotted a life form."
Jess jumped, looking at him. She bit back a giggle. "What?"
"I come in peace, beautiful creature."
"Sal. Come on, what-"
"Sal to base. The beautiful space woman seems to be initiating a mating ritual. I'll proceed."Jess had tears stinging her eyes.
"Your friends better not be on a mic somewhere" she hiccuped through laughter.Sal walked up to her, pushing his helmet visor up as he grabbed her breast.
"No. No...but I'm ready to explore unknown territory."
Jess gasped for air, unable to keep it in.
"Sal, please" she begged for an explanation.Sal tried to kiss her, the helmet getting in the way. Tears stung her eyes and fell, nearly unable to breathe, as Sal flung the helmet off.
He peppered her face with kisses. "Preparing for docking in the mother ship..."
Jess crumpled, Sal having to hold her up.There was a knock on the door. "Shit. Food. Hold on baby." He placed her naked form in a chair and answered in silver boxers.
The delivery man had seen worse.
When Sal went back to Jess, she was still giggling but able to talk.
"Feel better?" He asked, his hand brushing her cheek.
"Yes. You're just what I needed..."
"Time for that landing?" He asked, hopeful.
"No good adventure starts on an empty stomach." She winked.
Sal had never wanted to eat so fast in his life.It would be a promising expedition.
