As weeks passed, Will and I became a lot closer. We had 4 out of 7 classes together, we had the same lunch period, and we hung out with Piper and Dean everyday. All of our moms became close too, even with Dean's dad. Dean's dad was the only fatherly figure around since mine and Piper's dads were in the army and Will's dad had died of cancer when he was 11 years old.
Will became really popular almost immediately. A lot of the girls would try flirting with or hitting on him, and he'd show no interest in the most polite way possible. They'd always get upset and storm off. They'd get especially mad when they'd see me with him, for they knew we were "a thing." He hadn't officially asked me out yet or anything, but we all knew what we were, just without an actual label.
"So are we all still on for tonight then?" Dean asked as we were sitting at our lunch table.
"Of course, why wouldn't we be?" Will replied clueless.
"Just making sure," Dean said, clearly thinking back to last summer.
We were all planning to throw a party tonight because Piper's brother is coming back this weekend from college, and all of our parents are leaving on vacation together. We'll have to be extra cautious this time. Last time we had a party, someone called the cops to come break up a fight between two people we didn't even know. It got pretty out of hand after the cops left because most people were either getting high or drunk. This time we'll be careful though.
On the way home, Will and I blared the radio laughing at one another the entire time. Piper rides home with Dean most days while Will rides with me. Every day is the same routine. Get in the car, blare the radio, laugh at one another, and just talk about whatever comes to mind. Some days we stop somewhere to get something to eat. He doesn't have a vehicle, but he has his license, so sometimes he drives me around wherever. We also both have jobs at the local Fro-Yo store along with Piper and Dean.
"Brae, can we get Starbucks?" Will asked me giving me his precious puppy eyes.
"Well it's kinda hard to say no to that adorable face," I said smiling. I took the next right onto Millview Road, now on my way to Starbucks. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Will watching me with a smile on his face. "Will why are you looking at me like that?"
He laughed. "You just make me smile," he replied. We both smiled at that.
I pulled into Starbucks parking lot and parked in one of the only open parking spaces. I turned off the car and just as I was about to get out, Will told me he'd get it for me. I tried to hand him money, but he refused. As he walked up to the door he looked back at me with an expression that made it seem as he was up to something. I let it go and sat in the car on my phone. I checked my email and saw that Coach sent out a group email telling us all that we'd be cheering at Monroe High School instead of at home.
Moments later Will came strutting out with a Grande Iced Caramel Macchiato for me and a Grande Strawberry Acai Refresher for himself. He got in the car and apologized for taking too long. I told him he was fine "The line was really long," he continued.
"Will, it's fine. I'm not in any hurry," I said back. He smiled as I picked up my cup. He didn't take my eyes off of me for one second. As I was pulling the drink up to my mouth I saw something big and bold written in black sharpie. I looked at Will confused as to why he was still happily watching me so close.
Tears of happiness formed in my eyes as I read what it said. It read, "Brae, I hope this isn't too basic, because you're no common white girl, but I like you a latte so let's give it a shot?"
"Yes! Of course! Will, oh my god! WilliamChristianWatsonOhmygoshImSoHap--" I was cut off by Will's lips gently landing on mine. Just one kiss is sometimes all it takes for a heart to lose it's balance, and I definitely was caught off guard. If I would've been standing instead of sitting in that moment, I would've lost my balance. but I could care less because holy shit I was just kissed by freaking Will. Will Watson. The new most hot athletic popular guy at school. The dude of my dreams. Now I was speechless.
