That previous Wednesday, Danny arrived at the woman's house, astounded by how beautiful the exterior was. Noticing his admiration, the woman smiled lightly and lead him inside, where he was even more astounded by the interior. "Wow, y-your house is really nice." He commented. She smiled abashedly, giving a nod to signal her thanks, then disappeared into one of the doors on their right. He wandered around awkwardly for some time, eventually coming upon the living room and deciding to sit on the couch. When he got a notification on his phone, he was suddenly pulled back to what was going on back at the office, so he decided to shut off his phone until he was ready to go back.
After a few minutes, the woman stuck her head in to check up on him. She blushed lightly, asking, "I can't believe I forgot to ask you, but, what's your name? You don't have to tell me, it'd just be nice to have something to call you besides 'hey you'." She added cheekily.
"It's totally fine. You can call me Dan or Danny." He smiled lightly. He paused, realizing he didn't know her name. "Uhm, what's your name?" He asked embarrassedly.
"Ava," she offered lightly. "So, Dani, are you... hungry, or anything?" she asked quietly. Dan couldn't help but notice the way she pronounced his name.
"Ah, I guess I am pretty hungry, but you don't have to do anything special." He paused. "Just curious, how would you spell the name you just called me?" he questioned.
She blushed lightly, "D-A-N-I. I'm guessing you spell it with two n's and a y?" she asked embarrassedly. Dan nodded, but shrugged it off.
"You know, I've never had anyone spell it like that, so, I guess I don't really have a problem with it. By the way, do you have an accent? You seem like you do," he commented. Ava nodded. "Cool, did you immigrate or did you just pick up your parents' accents?" he questioned, intrigued.
Ava sighed lightly, "I moved here with my family when I was 10. We moved from Puerto Rico," she admitted.
Dan smiled, "Well, I don't know if this'll come off as creepy, but I think it's cute." Ava blushed, then went back to get Dan some food. He started to wander around the living room, noticing a large glass wall revealing a small square with several plants and porcelain animal statues. He opened the door and stood staring at some of the flower bushes, never having seen them before. Eventually, he goes back inside and notices a large bookcase against the far wall. Curious and slightly bored, he sees what kind of books are there, noticing that most are fantasy or Sci-Fi. He's not usually the reading type, but, boredom makes people do things they don't usually. He picked out one of the books and began reading.
Before he knew it, he had read through three chapters and Ava had left him a plate of food. Damn, I must've really been into this book. He picked up the plate and ate, it was delicious but a bit weird. After he was done eating, he decided to pick up the book again and read. Not long after, Dan looked up and noticed that the sun had already set, and he was ten chapters in. He approached where assumed the kitchen was and shyly entered, finding Ava sitting in a stool at the kitchen island reading a newspaper. "I-I didn't expect to stay this late... Do you mind if I stay the night?" he asked timidly. She looked up at him and smiled warmly.
"It's fine, I'll show you where you can sleep if you're tired now," she offered with a light laugh. She led him to a small room not far from the living room, and went into the living room and sat on the couch. She noticed the plate and book were still on the table, so she picked up the plate and took it to the kitchen. When she came back out, Danny was curled up on the couch with the book back in his hands. She smiled and sat beside him on the couch, closing her eyes and thinking. Eventually, Danny looked up and was frightened to see her sitting beside him on the couch, but only for a moment. He got up quietly and began creeping to his room, when her voice from behind him scared him. "It's fine, I'm not asleep, you can continue sitting here, I won't bite," she called with a laugh. Danny came back and sat awkwardly beside her.
"Are you enjoying that book?" she asked sweetly. Danny nodded more enthusiastically than intended, blushing when he realized how vigorously he had been nodding. Ava laughed.
She stated with a smile, "Yeah, I like that one, too." Danny went back to reading and relished in the silence, his mind not wandering back to the office once. Maybe I should stay here for a while until everything settles down between Suzy and Arin.
"Uhm, hey, would it be alright if I stayed here for, I don't know, about a week?" he asked nervously. Ava gave a warm smile and a nod.
"It's not like I have much company anyway," she whined playfully. Danny smirked and decided it was time to go to bed. Finding telling her he was going to bed too awkward, he made his way to the room quietly, and laid on the bed. As he was falling asleep, he thought about how much he enjoyed silence.
