The red-haired mage had tracked her way unto the Hoshidan's camp within the Palace Macarath. They had set up for the evening, and we beginning to settle down. The smell of freshly roasted meat and veggies wafted through the air. As tempting as it was, she couldn't allow herself to be seen.
"Did you even see how I took down that Nohrian scum?" A charismatic voice, which was seen to belong to the Hoshidan Prince, Takumi, chimed amongst other members of the army.
Beside him sat the tomboyish princess, Hinoka. She slugged him in the arm, harder than he would've imagined it would be.
"Oh yeah? I defeated twice as many as you did!" Hinoka gives a hardy laugh.
"That's because you had a head start," Takumi scoffs, casting his gaze elsewhere, unwilling to look at her.
"You b-both fought well!" Sakura, the youngest princess, stutters.
The mage had managed to see three of the Hoshidan royals; however, there was one more. She hunkered down between a set of ration crates and began to concoct a spell. The spell would allow her to see the camp with a mind's eye, and sense the thermal energy of the soldiers until she found who she was searching for. The mage jolted, as the target had stepped out from within a tent, merely inches away from the crates she had hid behind.
"Ryoma!" Takumi hollers. "Come! Join us!"
She could see the grin upon his face and, despite the ongoing war, how he seemed to show no sign of stress upon his chiseled face.
"Of course," he replies, as the samurai strides towards their bonfire.
The Rajinto upon his waist clanked against his hip as he walked. The sight of it sent chills down her spine.
As if he appeared out of thin air, a ninja with crimson hair and a mask confronts Ryoma. A tone of concern drifted through the ninja's voice.
"Your Highness, a word, please," the ninja says softly, though Eloise had fixed her hearing upon their conversation, edging closer from behind the crates.
Trying to get a better look, she puts her weight onto a crate. The creates creak, and a wooden frame from above tumbles to the dirt, its contents spilling out. Eloise falls with another crate, splitering her hand. The ninja speaking with Ryoma turns, and in a puff a smoke appears behind her. She leaps, a small scream escaping her throat, and backs up. Her back collides with metal. When she turns, she realizes that she had bumped into Prince Ryoma, himself.
"Why have you intruded upon our camp?" Ryoma's voice booms.
The mage takes a breath and collects herself, kneeling on her knee.
"Please forgive me Prince Ryoma, sir, but I want to aid you in your fight against King Garon. I am Eloise Ansgot of Nohr," she says simply, yet confidently.
"You do?" He looks at her with an upturned eyebrow.
She nods. "Yes. Everyone and everything in my village was destroyed by King Garon. I want to help you stop him... so no one else has to suffer because of his evil. Please, let me fight with you!"
Ryoma looks through her soul with eyes as sharp as his Raijinto.
"Ryoma! You can't trust this Nohrian scum," Takumi, the younger brother, intervenes.
"I don't usually say this, but I'm with Takumi on this one. We can't just let someone from Nohr join us, can we?" Hinoka adds in.
"I give you my word," the girl pleads. "If at any point I give you reason to doubt me, then you may strike me down where I stand."
Ryoma nods, "Very well. You shall fight with us. We can use every hand that we can get."
The girl leaps up, "Thank you, Your Highness. I promise you won't regret this."
"The honor is mine. Saizo, please see to it that Eloise has a place to sleep," Ryoma orders the ninja.
"Yes, sir," Saizo replies, disappearing in a cloud of smoke.
