Tom POV

I run into the house and change out of my sweat pants and T-shirt into a pair of jeans and a pull over long sleeved shirt. I grab my keys ready to run out of the house and head to the hospital, when Shelby walks out to the living wearing nothing but my T-shirt. "Where are you going in the middle of the night baby?" I walk up to her and kiss her on the forehead. "Shel, Ashley was taken to the hospital by ambulance just a few minutes ago. I'm going there so her friend doesn't have to wait  alone." She rolls her eyes in annoyance. "Why? She's not your girlfriend anymore. I start to grow inpatient. "Shelby, just go back to bed, I'll be back after while." She opens her mouth to say something, but I don't stick around to hear what it is. I head out the door and jump in my jag peeling out of the driveway.

I walk through the automatic doors to the hospital and immediately find the nurses station. "Excuse me, I need to find my fiance that was brought in by ambulance and little bit ago."I lie, The nurse looks up at me and smiles warmly. "Sure, what's her name  please?" I clear my throat. "Ashley Bokins." The nurse gives me a funny look. "I didn't know Ashley was engaged, especially to the one and only Loki." I smile and try to hide the panic rising up in my chest, I totally forgot this is the hospital Ashley works at. "Well, since I'm a celebrity and there could be paparazzi around, let my visit here be our little secret,  okay?" She nods and gives me a wink. "Now can you please help me find Ashley." She grows quiet as she types in her name into the computer. "Yes Mr. Hiddleston, she is still in the emergency department, just head through those double doors at the end of the hallway." I nod and thank her kindly. I walk though the entrance of the ER and find Rhonda sitting in the waiting room looking worried. "Rhonda darling, have you heard any news yet?" She gives me a shocked but angry look. "Tom, you shouldn't be here, Ashley didn't want you to know about her illness, haven't you caused enough trouble?" I look down at my feet feeling ashamed. "I guess I have, but I'm trying to do the right thing now."

The doctor walks out to the waiting room and makes his way to us and looks at me. "I assume you're Ashley's fiance?" Rhonda throws daggers at me with her eyes. "Yes sir, how is she?" The doctor nods and shakes my hand. "She's going to be fine, she had a bad reaction to the chemo, from now on we'll have to monitor her more closely after her sessions." I thank the doctor profusely. "Can we see her?" "Yes you can, but please only a short visit right now, she needs her rest. I shake the doctor's hand and he escorts us back to Ashley's room. Once in her room I stand by her bedside shocked by how pale she is. I take her hand in mine and her eyes open slowly. "Tom, what are you doing here?" She says in a weak trembling voice. "Shhh, we don't have to talk right now darling, you need to reserve your strength." She shakes her head and looks angrily at me. "I don't want you here, I want you to stay away from me." I continue to her hand tightly. "Ash, please don't get yourself upset, I heard you were sick and I want to be here for you. She shakes her head again. "I don't want you to be HERE for me NOW, it's too late. She starts to raise her voice and I realize I need to do as she wishes. "Okay love, I'm going, calm down." She lifts her tiny hand and points to the door. "Go!" I turn on my heel and walk out the door with tears burning my eyes. All the way to my car tears are streaming down my face. Why did I abandoned her, I was falling in love with her, and now I'm with some women I don't even care about. I'm really a fuck up when it comes to relationships. Once I arrive home Shelby is sitting on the front porch. I walk up the step to go in the house and she stops me. "I forbid you to see Ashley again, do you hear me, Tom?" I roll my eyes in her direction. "Frankly Shelby, I couldn't give a fuck less what you want, maybe it's best if you leave, no, it is a wonderfully good idea that you leave." I go into the house and slam the door behind me. As I'm laying in my  guest room feeling sorry for myself. I hear Shelby packing her stuff up. She is taking every opportunity to slam a dresser drawer or a door to show her displeasure.

Soon the house is quiet. I'm so glad Shelby's gone so now I can work on getting in Ashley's good graces again, which I don't deserve. I need to at least try. Even if it's vain, I owe her that much
