Alex's POV
I let the door close behind me as I walked out of the dorms. I looked around outside. It was still so wet. I shivered from the chill in the air as I made my way to the classes that I had missed, mentally cursing myself the entire way. I couldn't afford to miss classes! I needed to keep my GPA high if I wanted to stay in this school. I needed to know basically everything. Maybe I could convince these teachers to give me a private lesson to catch up. Or maybe I wouldn't even need to do that! Maybe I'll already know whatever the lessons were. I knocked on the door of the first of the three classrooms I had to visit.
Once I had all of my homework, I felt slightly better. Of the three lessons, there was only one that I didn't understand, and the teacher had agreed to tutor me over the weekend. So I was heading back to the dorms when something caught my eye. Or more like someone. Well, I say someone, more like some people. Jefferson, Madison, Reynolds, and Lee were walking together, talking to each other. Wishing to hear what they were saying, and being really good at blending into the background, I followed them, staying hidden from them while being able to eavesdrop on the conversation.
"No man, we can't do that! That is just too far! Just let it go man. I don't need Burr back in the group that bad!" Jefferson was saying.
"Come on! We can't just let him go. He could give away SDR secrets! Either we get him back, or we get rid of him!" Reynolds replied.
"Dude, you're getting way too extreme! We are not pulling JD into this!" Thomas said, his voice getting louder. "Burr doesn't know much of anything about what you've done. Even if he did, you know how he is. 'Talk less, smile more.' He wouldn't say anything that would get him in trouble! We could just let him go."
"Wow. You're going soft, Jefferson," Lee laughed. "Used to be, you'd take care of the problem yourself! At least with Jay and Thompson, you had the guts to call JD in to deal with them! Now you just want to let a member go?"
"I agree with Jefferson on this matter, guys. Calling in that psychopath is just too much," Madison said quietly.
"Oh sure! Side with Thomas! When don't you? You just follow him around like a puppy! Why don't you stand on your own two feet for once?" Reynolds snapped at him.
Madison stood straight as a deadly look filled his face. He kind of looked like a pissed-off Herc. "You wanna say that again, Reynolds? You think I can't fight for myself? How about we put that to the test, huh?"
"Uh... no, I think I'm okay. I take it back," he said quietly.
"Hmph. That's what I thought."
Having seen enough, I carefully made my way out of sight of the group before sprinting to the dorms. I went to Laf and Herc's room and knocked on the door. There was a moment before it opened, and Lafayette was standing in the doorway. "Alexander? What's wrong?"
I started signing my answer before remembering the fact he didn't understand what I was saying. I sighed and pushed past him into the room, smiling when I saw Sam there. At least someone here could understand what I'm saying. "Hey Sam," I signed.
"Hey, Alex. What's up?"
I began telling him everything that had just happened. He watched carefully and then quickly summed it up to everyone else. Everyone turned to Aaron, who looked just as confused as everyone else. "Aaron? Who's JD?" Herc asked.
He shrugged. "I don't know. He's probably a contact. Most members of the SDR don't really get to know who the contacts are. But..." His eyes flashed with fear. "If Jefferson is hesitant to call him in, then he must be bad. Like, complete maniac bad."
