Almost a year had passed. Each day, Alexander just sank further and further into the pits of depression. There's only one thing he'd do every day that required leaving his room (he was now living with Lafayette). He'd go to get a milkshake. It wasn't the same, but he felt the closest to John whenever he had one in his hand. He had dropped out of college, having no more motivation to learn. The thing he did the most was write. He would write nonstop for hours and hours, just trying to find the right words. He needed a proper way to say goodbye.
Laf and Herc knew they couldn't keep Alex around forever. He shut himself out from everyone, and it really concerned them. They knew they wouldn't be able to stop him from doing anything. Though they mourned their best friend greatly, they knew that Alex took it the hardest. They knew he blamed himself. Because, according to Alex, he had insisted on going for a milkshake. It wouldn't have happened if they hadn't gone. Laf and Herc had tried to convince him otherwise, but they couldn't.
The happiest thing that happened is that Sam did indeed end up getting a boyfriend. He was happy with Jay, and he treated him right. Though, he did miss his friends a lot. The only people he saw anymore were the Schuyler Sisters. And occasionally, he saw Alex at Steak 'N Shake. The rest of them didn't really communicate with anyone anymore. He knew Laf and Herc were still together, but the rest of them just kept to themselves. And it wasn't like any of them made efforts to meet up. Maybe they should get on that...
Thomas and James ended up getting out of the SDR. They both mourned the loss of John, but Thomas took it almost as hard as Alex did, feeling he could have done something to prevent it. Something more. They talked with Lafayette every once in a while, and often times, it was to check on Alex. Everyone was concerned about him. But he'd just ignore anyone who tried to talk to him. Though, sometimes, Thomas did see him walking through town. He'd try to talk to him, and he was pretty sure Hamilton would listen, but he never responded.
Aaron found a girl, being the only straight one in the group. He started dating a girl named Theodosia. They were always seen together, and they were very happy together, almost as happy as Sam and Jay, but not quite. He, just like everyone else, would try and fail to talk to Alex sometimes. But mostly, he was focused on Theodosia.
The Schuyler Sisters. Angelica, Eliza and Peggy. John was basically Peggy's brother, so she made the top three to take it the hardest. Angelica and Eliza were both there to comfort her. They weren't as close to John as Peggy was, so it wasn't that hard on them, but they still cried. Almost a year later, and Peggy was still upset about it, like Alex and Thomas, but at least she didn't blame herself like the others did.
And then there was John. He never did leave Alex's side, just as he said he wouldn't. And despite being told he couldn't do it, he still tried to find ways to communicate with him, though nothing worked. But one day, he guessed Alex had just had enough. It was his time to see his loved ones again. So he sat down and waited as Alexander grabbed a pill bottle. He knew he couldn't stop him, even if he tried. But he knew Alex was ready to go. And within ten minutes, he smiled softly. "Hi Alex."
"John..."
