Danica's POV.
My eyes flutter open to the dreary sunlight that makes it's way through the gaps in my curtains. I let out a sigh as I glance up at my alarm clock.*6:23*
I nuzzle back into my soft doña and close my eyes- seven short minutes until I will be forced out of my comfy bed and into reality. But it's defiantly worth it. All to soon my ears are filled with the loud screech of my alarm clock- well it's more like a loud beep that will continue on forever if you let it. But it sounds like screech to me, for it is much too early for loud sounds. I quickly press the button that shuts the darn thing up.
I groan as my hands push my head off of my pillow and I swivel my body around so my legs hang off the edge. I look around my messy excuse of a room. I don't really own enough stuff for my room to get too out of hand but the piles of books and clothes around disagree. I'm not general a messy person but I've been slacking off lately, and my room is rather small which makes it hard for me to contain it.
I stumble into the bathroom to wash my face when I notice my reflection, the same one that I have stared at my entire life. I never really cared about looking attractive, I kind of just gave up.
I step into the shower and turn the two knobs that send water gushing out of them- I always find it so fascinating how we have the power to summon water almost whenever we want and be able to control its temperature. Most people take it for granted, but I always tell myself to count my blessings.
After three minutes spent shampooing and washing my self I step out of the shower and wrap a towel around my body. I'm only allowed three minutes.
I change into a oversized jumper and jeans I go into my little sisters room.
My younger sister- Willow was nine, going on ten and I absolutely adored her. The problem was she suffered from HIV, she lives an ordinary life except the disease weakens her immune system causing her to get sick often. This time it was a cold.
"Good morning sleeping beauty" I murmur gently shaking her awake.
Her baby blue eyes shut tightly as she wrinkles her nose
"Danica" the young girl croaks, I can tell by her voice that her cold has gotten worse.
"How about I make you some breakfast?"
She nods her head slightly. I give her a quick peck on her got forehead and walk to the kitchen. As I cut up some yogurt and apple for Willow I quickly check on my mother.
Her door creaks open- it's never locked. I peer inside to see my mum slumped on top of her bed, makeup and clothes still on. She's often like this, you see she works really late hours on her second job!
As I finish Willows breakfast and bring her some pills for her cold, I put on some shoes and fix my hair in a messy bun. Then I scribbled down a short note for my mother when she wakes up.
*Gone to school, Willow has fever. I will be back after work, love ya xx*
I hurry down the stairs into the lobby of our apartment building. As soon as I step outside I'm greeted with the crisp February air and I smell the waft coffee and dough throughout New York City.
As I make my way through crowds of people and traffic I listen. I listen to everything there is to hear, the cries of young children and there mothers, sales men trying to direct you into their shops, people talking on the phone.
The phone is an interesting one, I love ears dropping on others conversations despite how rude it is. Today is was walking in front of a young looking man (late twenties I'm guessing) telling someone how 'it will never happen again'
I don't hear to much more of that conversation as I find my self crossing the busy street to my school. I wonder who he was talking to. His boss maybe or perhaps he left the stove on or who knows he may have forgotten his mothers birthday. I giggle to myself.
But my thoughts are blown away by the loud sound of a beeping. My feet had stopped in the middle of the street and some middle aged man was yelling at me to hurry up. I stumble to the foot path, slightly tripping over the curb. I do that sometimes I just get so lost in thought my world seems to stop and so do I without noticing. It's actually quite wonderful being able to get lost in thoughts, others just find it annoying.
Once I arrive at school I walk up the stairs to meet my friend Gabriel. I find her leaning against my locker on her phone texting.
"Hey girl!" She greets me by flicking her perfectly straightened brunet hair over her shoulder.
"Hi" I smile. Gabby and I had only known each for half a year, we met when we were assigned as partners at the start of twelfth grade last year.
"How was your holiday?" she smiled, pulling me into a hug.
"Just fine" I simply shrugs. "And yours?"
"OMG, it was awesome our family went skiing ind japan and-" she began to ramble. And I kind of get lost in thoughts again- this is how it will always be, gabby will be the extrovert and me the introvert. I liked books and library's while she preferred texting and party's.
"and there was this really hot guy called Liam on the plane and we started talking, but he's going to college soon and those long distant relationships never really work out, but I got his number any-" I cut her off as a head of brown short brown curls strides past.
"Who's that new kid" I ask her, I'm not really sure why I assume she knows
"Umm he's Harry, I heard he's transferring schools coz' he did something hell bad ass!" She raises her eyebrows
Actually there where quite a few new kids I noticed cluelessly walking throughout the halls, but this.. Harry guy stood out more, he was taller, more confident, maybe a little attractive even.
I'm not sure what made him stand out, I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
