Hey :)

If you've been a fan since the beginning and have read most of my stories and are still waiting for me to add more stories (I'm sorry about how long its taking to upload Memories are Forever! :$) thank you for your patience and it does not go unnoticed.

The story that follows, it does not have a happy ending therefore if you do not like sad ending, please don't read this and tell me how you hate it because of it. It was for the criminal minds unit for my English class. Honestly, I would have like to have a nice ending but it couldn't be like that.

Thank you for reading.

The Skeleton Keys

 “Where is it, you thief?”

“I’m never going to tell you where it is!”

*     *     *

          Fifteen minutes until the end of the meeting, Kadyn is thinking about what to eat for a late night supper rather than paying attention. He already knows what’s going to happen to the company; it’s going under. No one can do anything about it, not even the president of the company.

          The meeting’s done and Kadyn is ecstatic to finally be going home after long hours at work. As he leaves the building, he pulls out a cigarette from a pack, lights it up, and inhales. At last, he thinks, on my way to relaxation. In fact, amidst this warm June night in the city of Omaha, Kadyn didn’t think anything could go wrong. While he walks on the sidewalk, he hears muffled boot scuffs coming from an alley. Not knowing what it is, he approaches them slowly and he feels chilled to the bone by the thought of what it could be.

          Out of nowhere, he gets pulled into the alley by a short shadow. He panics and tries to escape.

          “I’m not going to hurt you! So don’t fight me.” Says the strange shadow. He lets Kadyn go and they face each other. “I need your help and I have a limited time to explain so listen closely. There are three guys; Romano, Bernardo, and Adriano, they are the Calabrian Mafia. Romano’s the brain, while the other two are the muscles. They are trying to steal a skeleton key,” the stranger gives Kadyn the key. “And it leads to the world’s most sought after antiques. There are two keys but at the moment, only focus on this one. Most of all don’t trust anyone! Quit you job and never come back here until you know for sure that the Calabrian Mafia will never look after the key again. Grab a few of your belongings and only use cash. They won’t track you as easily. Good luck, my friend and may God be with you on this journey. I’ll distract them for as long as I can but don’t wait around. Make your way north.” With that said, the stranger runs of and disappears in the distance.

          Immediately after, Kadyn rushes home to do what he was told. He’s never felt so pressured in his life. He puts all the money he has in a bag along with the key that was in it’s own small pouch. On the way out, he informs his employer that he will be leaving and he doesn’t know when he is returning. Therefore, Kadyn told him that he is done working for the company and he’s moving on.

          “What’s my first move from here?” Kadyn told himself looking back to his apartment for the last time. “I know that I shouldn’t go tot the airport because I have no idea where to go.” He thinks hard while walking towards the north end of the city. After a couple of minutes, he comes up with a cargo train. They don’t do inspections of the merchandise and they go from one country to another.

          With a new destination in mind, he goes to the nearest cargo train station. Avoiding all the busy streets and popular shops, he directs himself where is intended.
