It was the day. The day she manned up and decided to go get a tattoo. Checking on Harper and making sure the babysitter was going to be able to make it (though she highly doubted her baby girl was going to wake up in the entire time her mother was gone), she left to her bathroom to get ready.
She stripped down, completely nude. Taking a glance in the mirror, she lightly fingered her stretch marks that graced her hips. She wore them like a battlescar, they were apart of her. Apart of her little girl. Lastly, apart of Kaine. Even if he was ten years older, he understood her to the core. He got her emotions and understood why she felt that way; and he left her.
The thought of him leaving brought tears to her eyes again. No! Not the makeup! Fanning her face, she gave a little sniffle and glanced in the mirror. Nothing would make her regret her child. Though, she regrets that Harper doesn't have a father figure in her life. No, Raelyn played both parts. She did it successfully too. Sure, there's been ups and downs. Definitely days where Rae wanted to give up, scream and cry. But not once did she ever regret keeping her baby girl.
Time passed and she was finally satisfied with how she looked, she grabbed her keys and purse and kissed her daughter goodbye. Even though she wore a black tank and light blue jeans with a pair of white sandals, she looked like she wasn't facing anything horrible in her life.
Pulling up to the tattoo parlor, she took one final breath of courage, and got out. Walking inside, the place was vibrant and eccentric.
Definitely not what she expected: She thought it would smell more like a hospital, sterile and lifeless. No, quite the opposite actually.
Signing in, she sat down in the chair. In her hand she held a paper with the tattoo she wanted. Right behind her breast she wanted a little anchor. On the bottom of the anchor, had the date of birth, and right underneath that had Harper's name. Always a remembrance.
"Raelyn?"
That voice. It haunted her dreams, fueled her fantasies, and shared a mutual part with her that she could never take back.
Looking up, she played a smile on her lips as she looked up at Kaine.
"Hey Kaine, how are you?" Acting happy was impossible to do around him. Taking a up and down look up him, she inwardly sighed. He had a sleeve on his right arm which was new. His hair was "faded" on one side, and his lush straight hair was flipped to the other side of his head. His usual smirk was plastered on his face.
Oh that face. The five o'clock shadow graced his strong jaw, making Raelyn week in the knees. He had definitely been working out in the time that she hadn't seen him. He didn 't look like a thirty-four year old, nor a thirty-four year old that could have a child.
"I'm great, how are you?" There was something in his voice, almost excitement. His words brought her out of her thoughts and she took a subtle breath to calm her hormones and refrained from saying anything about her daughter- their daughter.
"I'm fine, it was good seeing you again." She turned away from her, but his hand grasped her wrist. He abruptly pulled away, but she caught the longing in his eyes before he cleared his throat and backed up a step.
"Actually, I'm your artist. I own the shop." A small smirk graced his lips once again.
"Oh-ok." She followed him to his office, sitting down in the chair, she handed over the picture she wanted done, and pointed to the spot where she wanted it.
This was gonna be a long few weeks.
