The Crash

It was a stormy summer evening in 1987. Rick Steiner was driving his car home from a local professional wrestling event that he was semi-main eventing in.  Everything seemed normal, he had music playing and was singing along to his favorite songs.

He couldn't wait to get back to the house he shared with his younger brother, Scott. Scott rarely missed any of Rick's events, as they often wrestled as a tag team- but tonight was different, Scott was offered overtime at his job- and they needed to make rent.

So Rick sped up his car, home was only 10 minutes away, and if he went over the speed limit on this back road, he would be home in less than 5 minutes. As Rick sped up, a clap of thunder came from the sky and lightning struck.

"Shit." Rick said to himself, it was not supposed to storm until next Tuesday. But weather like this was not uncommon.

Rick however, continued to speed along, even as rain came down in buckets, and lightning was illuminating the world around him.

Suddenly the world became black and the road became slick as he took a sharp right turn. The next thing Rick knew, he drove straight into a telephone wire.

The airbag deployed, but it didn't bother Rick any. He was tougher than that. So he got out of his car and went to assess the damage. That however would be his life changing mistake.

Lightning struck the telephone wires, and caused them to fall- instead of going on to the ground, they fell on top of Rick, and caused him to fall onto the ground, shocking him with many thousands of volts of electricity.

That was all Rick could remember. However this was something Rick would never forget.
