Chapter 01 : I'm home ; ただいま

_____

[Koizumi Akane's POV]

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Osaka International Airport. The local time is 7:16 and the temperature is 80°F. For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the Fasten Seat Belt sign. This will indicate that we have parked at the gate and that it is safe for you to move about.

Please check around your seat for any personal belongings you may have brought on board with you and please use caution when opening the overhead bins, as heavy articles may have shifted around during the flight. If you require deplaning assistance, please remain in your seat until all other passengers have deplaned. One of our crew members will then be pleased to assist you. On behalf of Osaka International Airlines and the entire crew, I'd like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to seeing you on board again in the near future. Have a nice evening!" The flight attendant reports.

As I pause the music, I slowly open my eyes and reveal my purple orbs. I grip the handles as I feel the plane flying downward. My stomach turns and my ears pop several times. It felt as if I was on a drop tower at a theme park. As the plane hits the land, making a loud sound, it starts rattling. As the plane stops and the seatbelt sign turns off, patients gets up and carefully open the overhead bins. As for me, I didn't need to get any belongings from the overhead bins. I just had to retrieve my suitcase from the baggage reclaim.

I finally stood up with a small backpack and waited for the patients to start walking. As I passed the pilot I smiled at him, slightly. After getting my suitcase, I wait for a taxi.

"Hello, young lady. Where would you like to go?" The taxi driver asks.

"Rakuzan High, please." I calmly say with a smile.

'I'll just walk home from there,' I thought as he starts driving. It was the month of June. There was green leaves instead of pink buds. We passed by a shimmering lake with a garden of flowers and nature. As I scroll down the window, a melodic chirping fills my ear. I could see birds flying around in synchronous.

'I'm home, Japan!'

As the drive comes to a stop, I walk out and grab my suitcase.

"Thank you, sir," I say before the driver starts driving. I take a look at Rakuzan-High.

'So, this is the school I'm going to?' I thought. 'Why is it so big? I'm probably going to get lost." As I was about to start walking home, someone calls my name.

"Akane!"

I slowly turn around. There, I could see a boy my age with maroon-red, spiky hair and matching red eyes. As soon I saw him, my lips turn into a bright, big smile.

"Sei!"

I ran towards him and embraced him tightly. The warmth of his, filled me up. An expression of shock fills his face, but quickly recovers into a bright smile. He embraces me back and closes his eyes, welcoming my existence.

As I hear some people whispering, I slowly let go of him

As I hear some people whispering, I slowly let go of him.

"Are you walking home?" I ask Sei.

"Yeah," he answers. "You're still staying at 'the' house right?"

"Yup! I'm pretty sure my aunt should be there, by now." We begin walking home, starting random conversations.

"Sei, you've grown. You used to be smaller than me! Now you're like a foot taller than me! I sound like your grandma!" I sheepishly laugh. He chuckles a bit, too.

"To me, it looks like you've just shrunk."

"What? I grew an inch since last year!"

"I'm just joking. Can't you take a joke?" he asks, laughing. A small chuckle escapes my lips.

"You haven't changed since I 'left'. I was worried that you forgot about me," I say with a small smile.

"Really? You haven't changed a bit, either. Well, besides the fact that you shrunk."

"Can you stop now?"

Like childhood friends, we continued talking about idiotic things. Before we knew it, we were in front of each other's house. As I stood in front of mine, Sei stood in front of his, which was next to mine.

"I'll see you tomorrow. It was really nostalgic and fun talking to you! Good night!" I say as I open the door. Once I open the door, a delicious aroma fills my nostrils. It was a bit different when I still lived here. My stomach turned as I took off my shoes on the entrance.

The lights were on and I could hear someone cooking. I take a deep breathe and take my first step into my nostalgic house. A big smile shows up on my face, as a chill runs through my spine.

"I-I'm home!"

After a few seconds, a lady with an apron comes running down the hallway. She hugs me tightly and sniffs my hair. I could smell a delicious aroma coming from her.

"You've grown so much! I don't think I can recognize you if I see you on the streets!" My aunt says. "Now, don't just stand there and come inside. I just finished cooking."

. . .

I close my eyes and stare back at my ceiling. I was done with my night-routine and by tomorrow, I would have to wake up and go to school. The idea of going to a new school was keeping me from going to sleep. Just by thinking about it, made my heart beat faster. With these feelings, I drifted off to sleep.

How are the people in Rakuzan? Do the students not like transfer students? Will they judge me? Will I get lost? I hope I get into some of Sei's classes.
