The land of Taesora is home to many strange beings. The most populous are the palk, aures, breves, kri, and nerrumir.
The palk are short, silver-skinned beings with dark hair and tufted tails. They are excellent climbers and love to bicker and debate. They are most common in the city of Ayria. The palk control a wealthy kingdom. Above most things, they fear war. Among their kind, same sex and polyamorous relationships are common.
The government of the palk is unlike the kingdoms around them. The palk are governed by two courts: the Ojreem Court and the Tiris Court. The Ojreem Court hold the beliefs that the land held by the breves is rightfully theirs, but it should be acquired through diplomacy rather than violence. The Tiris Court, on the other hand, believes that those of the bre race should be able to keep their homes, but palk should be more integrated in their society and culture.
The aures control the largest kingdom in Taesora. Tall beings with elvish ears and light skin, their heads lack hair of any kind. A highly religious race, aures shave their heads as a rite-of passage; another rite is the "purification of sound", or the destruction of their ear drums. Without the use of hearing, aures communicate telepathically. They are strong in magic, unlike their palk cousins, and they use a certain type of sound magic.
Amongst their culture, any type of skin blemish is seen as something divine. Those with freckles or birthmarks often become priests or high servants of the gods.
The breves are know as the distant ancestors of the palk. They are a short-statured race, shorter than even the palk. They are predominantly dark skinned and gold haired with light colored eyes. The breves are nonreligious, though they once were; long ago, their gods forsook them and no longer answered their prayers. Notable families have crests dating back to the time of the gods; each member of the family displays their crest via a tattoo on the face.
While breves is plural, a single one of them is know as a bre. Something of the breves is called breven.
They own land known for its wild weather. They are notable farmers, able to grow things in the most desolate and harsh places. They are also famous for their marketplaces and unusual spices.
The kri are perhaps some of the strangest beings to grace the shores of Taesora. While they are not technically part of Taesora, living on an island off the eastern coast known as Sanake, they trade frequently with those on the mainland. The are canine-like beings, quite tall and covered in thick fur. They have long muzzles and equally-long ears and tails; some kri even have thicker mane-like fur growths on their hackles. Despite their large size, they walk differently than most, in a more humble tone; as a result, their size looks diminished;p however, a full-sized kri is something to fear. A warrior culture ruled by a great emperor, the kri believe strongly in the art of discipline and meditation.
Unlike many of the other races of Taesora, the kri only worship one deity - a goddess known as Sirocco.
The nerrumir are rarely seen above ground, preferring the protection and warmth of the underground. They are dark-skinned beings with ornate horns atop their dark-haired heads; their horns are decorated with intricate designs, carved right into the thick material. Equipped with large eyes, they are built for living and scouring through the dark places they call home.
The nerrumir are fungivores, eating the different types of fungi that sprout along the rocky walls. Instead of having the normal set of teeth, they only have bottom teeth; the top of their mouth is merely a bony plate used to mash and grind fungi.
The nerrumir race are older than beyond memory; they witnessed the birth of the palk and the coming of the aures and the kri. For a thousand moons, the nerrumir empire has stood strong and unbreakable.
