I woke up in a different place. I was in a old, wooded barn. There was a horrid smell that filled the room. There was a crow outside, staring at me from a broken tree. I tried to get up, but I was chained to the ground. I turned to my right to see a tall man. He was at a table chopping up something with a large ax. I had no clue where I was or how I got here. All I remember is when I was at the hospital. The tall man slammed his ax on the table, sliding bits of bloody pieces of meat into a bag. He breathed heavily "good morning sweetheart" the man said. His voice was grouchy and deep that made my heart beat quicker by the second. I put my back against the wall behind me as the man turned around with blood all over his hands. I looked away at his face with my knees against my chest. He knelt down and put his thumb on my face "don't worry, hun-you're safe now". I breathed heavily as I clenched my hands into a fist. He started to stroke my hair lightly "I made dinner for you". The man got up and grabbed a handful of the mystery meat he was cutting up earlier. He turned around and walked back to me, slowly. He got on his knees and took one piece of meat. He put it against my mouth "here". I shut my mouth tight and turned away. He sighed heavily as he grabbed my jaw tightly, forcing the food into my mouth. The way he grabbed my jaw made me shriek in pain. He smiled and chuckled, softly "when I ask you to do something, you do it...Don't fight back...Don't-" I spit out the food right into his face. His smile began to fade. He jumped right up and headed towards a bin full of equipment. He grabbed whip and clenched it in his hand. He said something that I couldn't understand. He swung the whip, hitting me in my shoulder. I fell over crying, screaming in pain. As much as I could scream, nobody- nobody could hear me. Not even that crow from before.
My eyes popped open as I began to scream. Doctor Vince came running in, calming me down "hey- he it's me! Settle down" he yelled, grabbing my arms. I stopped screaming, staring at him. He looked worried at me "are you ok? Do you remember anything?" he said. I grabbed the pillow from behind me, holding it tight around my arms. He sighed and pulled up a chair "look, I know you don't know me, but you're my patient. I need you to tell me everything that you saw. It could help with your case. I looked at him, confused "ca-case?" I questioned. He sighed once more "you were found in a forest almost half dead. A camper found you while he hiked. You were covered in bruises and scars. Your side was gushing blood. You were passed out, you had a low pulse". I grabbed my pillow tighter. I felt a tear began to form and fall slowly down my face. He pulled up the chair and placed his arm on my shoulder "don't worry... you're safe". Those words began to wander back into my mind. I looked at him "the man" I said repeatedly. He looked puzzled "the man?". I nodded "yes, the tall man in the barn. He- he told me that everything was going to be ok. That- that I didn't have to worry". He looked at his hands and got up "ill be right back". I took a big gulp and nodded. He smiled and walked out of the room.
Doctor Vince POV:
The words repeated in my brain "the tall man" and "he told me everything was going to be ok". How could someone do this to her. She seemed like she suffered through so much. I have many questions to ask her, but she probably wouldn't be able to answer them. I rushed over to one of the police officers that was on her case "excuse me, Officer Jinn sir". He turned around with a cup of coffee in his hand "Jane Doe, the girl who your trying to look into from the forest" I said. He looked at me "Yes, what about her". I took my hands out of my pockets "she remembered something, someone that could help you". He took a sip of his coffee "and what did she say". I looked at him and told him everything she told me. His eyes went into shock "ok, thanks for telling me! I'll let you get back to work". I nodded my head in approval and walked off. I hate working with these people because it makes me very emotional seeing a girl her age like this. She is probably scared that that man will come back.
Officer Jinn POV:
Men and all women filled the room. Some were on the phone and some were carrying files of paperwork. I rushed into a room with my co-workers. I slammed down a file with Jane Doe's face on it "figure out she has temporarily amnesia. She told one of the doctors that it was a man in a barn". Officer Koop looked at me "that's great Scot, but there are thousands of people who own barns. We need something to narrow down a list of men". My boss Officer Reyes looked at Officer Tomson "anything on who the girl is?". Officer Tomson "no, nothing". Officer Reyes asked again "what about fingerprints?" he asked. He sighed "you see, Jane Doe was found with her finger prints burned off, so there is no way we can get her identity if we don't have a list of men". I looked over to Reyes "what if she was kidnapped when she was younger? Would that tell us anything?" I asked. Tomson typed in the computer 'missing young girls'. He focused on the computer, searching for a match "do you know her age?". Koop looked at Tomson "she is probably in her teens now, maybe 17 or 18 years old". Tomson typed again 'missing young girls 1992'. He pushed his computer back a bit "103 little girls, she was probably kidnapped when she was 5 or 6 if she's 17. I looked at him "that's better, how about looking for girls with her hair and eye color". He typed more in as it started to load "it will take awhile, so how about you go back to the hospital and see if there is any more information" he said. I nodded and walked out of the room. I hopped into my cruiser and drove back to the hospital.
