Doctor Vince POV (15 years ago)
The sky was dark and black. The large pillow shaped clouds moved quickly towards my house. The sound of pitter-patter tapped on my window. The rain fell quickly down my window. I walked to my front door and grabbed my umbrella as I slipped on my raincoat. "Come on, Adley!" I yelled. She ran to me with a big smile on her face with her backpack on her back. We ran outside to the car while the trees swayed from each side. I helped Adley in her car seat and slammed the door. I opened my door and hopped into the car. My whole body was shivering as I turned on my car. The radio unexpectedly turned on as well as the heat 'Welcome back to 106.2 with another droopy morning. We have a lot of stories for you early morning birds!' the radio repeated stories from the other day like traffic accidents, the weather, any other information that we need to look out for. Adley hummed the song 'The Wheels on the Bus'. It was hard not to stay quiet. I looked at her in the mirror and hummed as well. Her dimples showed as she giggled in excitement. Her blond hair was damp almost covering half of her face. Her little hands held a picture of her and I for her school presentation. We hummed and hummed as I drove Adley to school. The wipers on the car swerved from left to right. The view in front of me was blurry. It was hard to see what was in front of me even with the lights on. There was nobody driving beside me. Nobody driving behind me. It was just me until my car soon hit something big. Something so big and hard that my car flipped. I held tightly on my wheel and grunted every time my head banged against the sides of my car. The car flipped almost 4 time until it soon landed with the wheels facing the sky. My eyes flickered lightly to get my vison back. I see and dark figure standing next to my car. All I could see is his feet. I tried to grab his ankle, but he walked away. He soon drove off with his half damaged car. I yelled for help, yelled for the man to come back. It was too late though. My voice was weak and soft. I turned my head to the back seat. Adley looked hopeless. Her hair was even messier than before. I could see her bones sticking out. I screamed louder and louder. I yelled her name, but she wouldn't wake up. I tried to grab her hand, but my shoulder was out of place. Tears rushed down my face. I couldn't bear to see Adley like this. Blood from her head dripped onto the picture of her and I. Suddenly her eyes opened lightly "Daddy" she said softly. Her voice cracked as she tried to spoke. I looked at her, smiling "don't worry Ads, everything is going to be fine. Just stay awake for me please". I tried to cut my seatbelt. Rain drops hit lightly on my face as I tried to escape. I was soon loose enough to escape through the broken window. When pulling myself out, the shards of glass scrapped against my skin. I grunted in pain. I limped over to Adley's seat. The door handle was jammed, unable to open. I yelled to Adley as I slumped over onto my back "Adley cover your eyes! I'll get you out in a jiffy". I kicked the window over and over. My feet bounced off the glass until you hear a loud crash. The hearing of Adley crying broke my heart "don't cry! Everything is going to be fine" I yelled. I slipped through the window and landed on more shards of glass. As I crept through the window, the vision shocked me. I could see her bright pink brain was sticking out. I shook my head thinking everything is going to be ok .I swiftly cut Adley's seatbelt and picked her up. Her head rested against my shoulder. Her short arms gripped around my neck. I held her head close and crept back out of the window. I left everything behind and ran. I ran until I saw somebody. I kept telling Adley to 'stay awake'. It took a few minutes until I saw light. The headlights of a car shinned in my eyes. I stopped in the middle of the road. It was a woman in a white coat "Sir are you alright?" she questioned. I ignored her "are you a doctor?". She nodded and hopped out of her car. She ran to me, holding my Adley's head. She ran back to her car and grabbed a kit full of medical supplies. I panicked, holding Adley's head. She grabbed a flashlight and shined it in her eyes. I stuttered as I told the woman what had happen. She looked at me, worriedly. She got up "there's a hospital up ahead, I'll take you there" she quickly said. I got up and sat in the passenger seat with Adley's body on my lap. I looked at Adley as the tears fell down my face onto her face. Her eyes closed lightly and opened half way. The woman stepped on the pedal, almost going 70 mph. She focused on the road "sir, my name is Nurse Dani Torres. I will try very hard to get our best doctors to save your daughter". Adley tried to speak "Da-da-ad" she stuttered. I cupped my hands on her face. She closed her eyes once more, but didn't open. I shook my head in disapproval. I kept yelling her name. Telling Adley to wake back up, but she didn't hear me. She was gone. I screamed loud and hard as more tears fell down my face. Dani told me to settle down, but she soon went silent. I swooped Adley up, having her head rest against my chest. Her face was partly cold. She was everything to me. I kissed her head and stared out the window in front of me, angered and upset at the world.
Days have passed. Everyday I think about how Adley died. The room Jane Doe was in was the one Adley laid in. I remembered tucking her in. Sitting on that bed as the doctors stared at me. I hate working with children because it reminds me of Adley. Everything I do wont bring her back. I moved out of my house. I got a job at the hospital. I changed my life after the accident. Dani was there every single day since then. She is part of the reason why I joined the hospital. I may not know who Jane Doe is, but she reminds me of Adley. Happy, scared, looking for hope. I may hate myself when working with Jane Doe, but she looks at me like she needs help. Sometime we need someone in our lives to forget about the past. Someone to be there for you. Someone...
