Belle was just minding her own business when her hand decided to expel sparkles yet again. It was just getting annoying, really. If this didn't stop she would have to leave and hide in the woods to keep Maurice safe. She hoped it wouldn't come to that. Belle shook those thoughts from her head. If she can learn to control it, she doesn't have to leave. But that's a big if. She tried hiding her hands behind her back to see if it would help. To her surprise and relief, it worked, amazingly.
"Belle, someone's at the door for you!" Maurice called, making Belle frown. Who would want to see her? She made her way to the door, only to groan at the sight of Gastón.
"Belle!" Gastón smiled widely. "How lovely to see you!" Belle tried giving a smile but she suspected it looked more like a grimace.
"And you as well," Belle responded, shooting Maurice a dirty look. Gastón didn't wait to be welcomed in, he just pushed past Belle and entered the small cottage. Trying to hide her disdain, Belle followed him and made sure he didn't ruin anything important. Maurice just went back to his workshop. "Are you here for any particular reason, Gastón?" Instead of answering, Gastón just turned to her and grinned, making Belle nervous.
"Just for you, darling Belle." He flirted, making Belle look away awkwardly as she fidgeted. She felt her hands tingle and they started sparkling, so Belle quickly hid them in her apron before Gastón could notice.
"That's nice," Belle stated blandly, trying not to let on that anything was wrong.
"Aren't you excited to see me?" Gastón inquired as he started walking closer to her. Belle shook her head and backed up.
"Not particularly, no." She admitted, not liking how he kept getting closer. Eventually, Belle couldn't back up anymore and she cursed the small sitting room.
"Is that so?" Gastón said cockily, smirking at her small form. Belle looked around for anything that could help her but found none, and once again she cursed the room. At this point, her hands were emitting so many sparkles that she couldn't hide it anymore. Gastón got distracted by them and Belle used that moment to escape, but Gastón was staring at her in horror. "What in the world is that?" Belle looked down at her hands and saw that they were engulfed in sparkles. She gulped and looked at Gastón in horror. "Are you a witch? I always knew you were a bit weird, what with reading and everything, but I never thought it was because you were a witch." He said witch with such a disdain that it made Belle angry.
"So what if I am?" She countered. "Would it make you afraid?" She waved her hands for emphasis, making Gastón jump back a few steps. Smirking, she kept pushing, liking this change in command. "What if I told you," Belle started, "that I had magic?" Gastón said nothing as he kept his eyes on her hands, not wanting to get distracted and have Belle blast him away.
"I would answer 'burn the witch', but you already knew that, didn't you?" Gastón smirked, standing at his full height. Belle was scared. She could only pretend to have control over her powers for so long, after all. It wasn't long before they stopped sparkling and Gastón would force her to leave. So she thought about a solution that would help her. Glancing at the door that led to the workshop, Belle's heart dropped. She didn't want to leave Maurice alone, but these powers could be dangerous- they did, after all, leave a scorch mark on the wall. She took a deep breath to steel herself before she prayed that her plan would work.
"So be it," Belle said, and looked Gastón in the eyes before she lifted up her hands and clapped, making sparkles go everywhere, distracting Gastón long enough for her to slip out the door and run toward the forest that was near her house. It wasn't long before Belle realized that she couldn't get that far on her own because dark was fastly approaching. Belle found herself shivering and wishing she had the good though to bring a shawl or cloak, but she had to make do on her own. The moon was high when Belle stumbled into a clearing where a big brass gate lay.
"What in the world is this?" She inquired, going up to try and open it. To her surprise and relief, it did, and she was able to slip in. Before her laid a huge castle, making her wonder how she never knew it was there. Not thinking too much of it, and glancing at the night sky, she thought it couldn't hurt to stay there the night before looking for a place she could stay permanently.
Inside the large presumed empty castle, Lumiere was looking through the large window above the door, as he always did on the off chance someone would come. To his surprise, someone actually was.
"Cogsworth! Come quick!" He called, not taking his eyes off the brunette.
"What do you want, you pesky candlestick? Some of us are trying to get their beauty sleep." Cogsworth responded as he joined his fellow enchanted friend.
"Look, a girl!" Lumiere said, effectively shutting up the clock. Cogsworth looked out the window in shock and saw the girl approaching the large double doors.
"Mon Dieu, she's really there!" He said in awe. Lumiere looked over at him grumpily.
"What, you didn't believe me?" Lumiere said in fake hurt. Cogsworth looked over and gave him a sheepish smile.
"No, no, I would never-"
"Hello?" A soft voice said, interrupting the clock. "Is someone here?" Both Cogsworth and Lumiere turned toward the girl in surprise.
"Cogsworth, what if she's the one? The one to break the spell?" Lumiere said quietly. Cogsworth looked at him in disbelief but moved forward to speak to the young girl.
"We are here, Miss. Tell me, what brings you here?" Cogsworth said, startling the girl.
"I-I left home," she said, not wanting to give away her true intentions. "And I'm seeking shelter for the night. Is that alright?"
"But of course!" Lumiere cut in, making his way down the grand staircase, catching the girl's attention. Belle turned towards it and was shocked to see a candlestick and clock making their way down them. Rubbing her eyes, Belle was quick to pinch herself and make sure she wasn' dreaming. "I am Lumiere, and this is Cogsworth! Welcome!" Belle backed up a few steps and looked on in awe as the candlestick paused and looked confused while the clock rolled what she assumed were its eyes.
"You scared her, you daft thing," Cogsworth said, looking at the oblivious candlestick.
"Ooh, I'm terribly sorry, Miss. Do forgive me. Now, do allow me to escort you to your room so that you may settle in for the night." Lumiere said, hopping forward to stand in front of Belle. Belle looked apprehensive but nodded anyway. At that, Lumiere sped off, Belle right on its heel- er, stick?- and shot a quick around her to remember how to get out if necessary.
