A/N: For those who aren't aware, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I did just complete a book and send it off to the publisher, though! I have a bunch of other updates to get done before I crawl back into my writing cave and start the next book for publication. :D
Glancing at all the clothes in my closet, I tried to figure out what I could wear that would make me stand out the least at this new school.
Finally deciding on a pair of black skinny jeans and a black blouse, I got ready for the day.
North glanced up at me as I entered the kitchen, smirking.
"What?" I questioned, dropping into a chair at the table.
"You remind me of me," he admitted as he dished up some scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. He buttered a couple of slices of toast and set a couple pieces of bacon on the same plate, along with some fresh fruit. On a separate, smaller plate, he buttered a couple of pancakes.
"I do?" I wasn't sure if I should feel pleased or offended at that.
"Yeah. My entire closet is black." He chuckled as he grabbed a tray from under the sink. He gently set the overflowing plates on it and grabbed a glass cup, filling it with orange juice. "Help yourself to the food. I made enough for everyone who's still here."
Owen stepped into the room, lifting a brow at the tray in North's hands. As soon as North was out of sight, Owen sighed, nudging the corner of his glasses up. "Sang will never eat that much." After pouring himself a cup of coffee, he lowered himself into a chair opposite of me, and said, "Go eat. We leave for school soon."
I stood up, grabbing a plate to pile food on. With so many people living in the same house, I was amazed that more of them weren't down here with the food already. "Where is everyone?" I asked, sliding back into my seat.
"A couple of the guys had work to do this morning. Sang is still in bed, and you just saw North. Everyone else is possibly still sleeping." He took a sip of his beverage, grimacing. Getting up from the table, he calmly walked to the sink, dumping his white cup out with very little expression.
"Was something wrong with the coffee?" I questioned, taking a bite of my bacon.
"We have a rule in the house. First one awake makes coffee. I'm starting to regret that decision." He sat back down, waiting for me to finish my breakfast.
Once I was done and I'd cleaned up my dishes, Owen picked my backpack up, handing it to me. We headed for the door silently. I wasn't sure how to break the silence when we got into the car, and he seemed like a man of few words.
At the school, we got out of his BMW, heading for the front doors of the school. A few students stared at me as I walked past. Hunching my shoulders, I wished a hole would open up in the floor to swallow me whole. I wiped my sweaty palms on my thighs, follows Owen through the hallway and to the office. Thankfully, we didn't have far to walk. I could feel someone staring at me and the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. Refusing to turn around, I stepped through the door Owen was holding open for me. My relief was short-lived when I realized the wall and door separating the office from the hallway was almost solid glass.
"Ignore them, Ms. Taylor. Let's get you registered so you aren't late." Owen speared me with a gaze that made me want to obey his every word.
The receptionist glance up as us as she was typing, paused, and then looked at him a second time, slowly smiling. "What can I do for you?"
I scowled. I might have just met Sang and these guys, but I liked them. They were nice to me when they didn't have to be, and this man was already taken. The woman seemed to ignore me as she gazed at Owen.
